A flat picture reproducing device includes a vaccum-tight envelope containing an electrode matrix formed of row conductors and column conductors disposed in front of the row conductors and having holes at respective crossings thereof, the matrix dividing the interior of the envelope into a rear and a forward chamber; an areal electron source in the rear chamber; elongated vertical deflection electrodes disposed in the forward chamber in a plane parallel to the plane of the matrix and, respectively, running between rows of the holes parallel to the row conductors, a respective single one of the vertical deflection electrodes being disposed between respective hole rows of adjacent pairs of the hole rows; the envelope having a wall on the forward side thereof coated with a layer of material luminescent when excited by electrons; an addressing circuit for scanning the row conductors sequentially to construct a picture line-by-line, each of the row conductors remaining addressed for at least one picture-row period, the addressing circuit providing the respective column conductors, during each picture-row period, with appertaining picture-row information signals so that the electrons delivered by the electron source can pass selectively through the holes of the electrode matrix; the vertical deflection electrodes having different potentials applicable thereto in synchronism with the picture frequency in a manner that the electrons entering the forward chamber are deflected, respectively, upwardly or downwardly.

Flat picture reproduction device

Gas discharge display device having a vacuum-tight envelope with a front and back plate. A control unit divides the interior of the envelope filled with gas into a back and front space. The back space has at least one plasma cathode and at least one plasma anode. The front plate carries a cathodoluminescent layer and a layer electrode. The control unit contains at least one electrode plane extending parallel to the wall plates, with at least one conductor. In operation a gas discharge burns between the plasma electrodes. The distance between the post-acceleration anode and cathode is small such that no gas discharge is ignited in the post-acceleration space. The post-acceleration cathode is coated with an implantation protection layer of a high-melting metal to maintain the operating voltage constant under continuous load.

Gas-discharge display device with a post-acceleration section

Gas discharge display device having a gas-filled space gas-tightly closed on one side by a front plate and on a side opposite thereto by a back plate and subdivided by a control plate into a gas discharge space and a post-acceleration space, the control plate carrying electrode runs respectively addressable separately and forming a matrix as row conductors on one side of the control plate and as column conductors on the other side of the control plate, and having, together with the electrode runs, control through holes at intersection points of the matrix, a fluorescent screen disposed on the side of the front plate opposite the control plate and defining the post-acceleration space, the fluorescent screen having an anode layer thereon, and at least one insulated cathode on the side of the back plate and defining the gas discharge space, the control plate having, on the side thereof facing towards the post-acceleration space, a plate having a raster of holes formed therein coincident with a raster of the control holes formed in the control plate, including a supplementary control plate having selectively one and two additional potential planes separated from one another, the planes having on at least one side thereof strip lines for conducting an electric current, the strip lines being aligned parallel to the row conductors of the control plate and having selectively applicable thereto an electric passing and blocking potential for electrons flying towards the fluorescent screen.

Gas discharge display device

Flat picture reproduction device for displaying color pictures based upon three basic colors, containing a vacuum-tight envelope with an electrode matrix formed of row conductors and column conductors arranged in front of the row conductors. It has cutouts at the intersections of the row and column conductors and divides the interior of the envelope into a rear and a front chamber. A planar electron source is located in the rear chamber, elongated deflection electrodes located in the front chamber, between adjacent column conductors. The odd-numbered deflection electrodes are connected to a first voltage source, and the even-numbered ones to a second voltage source. Strip-shaped layers of luminescent phosphor is applied to the front side of the envelope wall adjacent one another in a periodic color sequence parallel to the column conductors. An addressing circuit is provided which has means for scanning the row conductors sequentially, and means for providing the column conductors, during a row scanning time interval and in the sequence of colors, with white dot information potentials in a manner that electrons supplied by the electron source can pass selectively through the cutouts formed in the electrode matrix, and means for applying different potentials to the deflection electrodes so that the electrons entering the front chamber are directed to the respective luminescent strips having the correct color.

Flat color picture reproduction or video display device

A gas discharge display device has a discharge chamber and a post-acceleration chamber which are separated by a perforated control disc having line and column conductors thereon. The post-acceleration chamber is limited at its lateral boundary by at least one spacing frame which leaves the post-acceleration chamber support-free in its active volume. The inner boundary of the lateral spacing frame substantially coincides with the outer boundary of an active luminescent screen surface which limits one side of the post-acceleration chamber, and the frame has a width such that the inner frame boundary is free of sealing material and which further maintains a separation between the outer edge regions of the potential layers on the opposite sides of the post-acceleration chamber. A high post-acceleration voltage can thus be employed in the post-acceleration chamber without producing arcing.

A control plate for a gas discharge display device has a mechanically stable carrier plate of an electrically insulating material which has metallized column conductor tracks on one side and metallized row conductor tracks on an opposite side which in combination form a matrix of perpendicular rows and columns. The carrier plate has perforations extending through plate at points of intersection of the rows and columns. Each row and column is separately energizeable for selected transfer of electrons in the display device from one side of the plate to the other. The metallized tracks on each side extend a distance into the perforations so as to prevent charge accumulation within the perforations which would otherwise impair the control obtainable by the plate. The metallized portions of the perforations are separated by a ring of exposed carrier plate which is substantially nonconducting having a resistance of 100 megaohms or greater.

Control plate for a gas discharge display device

A gas discharge display device has a hermetically sealed gas filled envelope having an anode plate on one interior side and a profiled cathode on an opposite interior side. A control plate having a conductor matrix thereon formed of row conductor runs on one side and column conductor runs on an opposite side with perforations in the plate disposed at row-column intersections is disposed inside the envelope parallel to the anode and cathode and divides the interior of the envelope into a post-acceleration area near the anode and a discharge area near the cathode. The cathode profile is a plurality of spaced ribs disposed parallel to at least one set of conductor runs on the control plate. Upon cathode energization, gas electrons are ionized on that part of the cathode confined by neighboring ribs and opposite to air charged conductor on the control plate and subsequently drawn to the anode plate through the matric holes to display a point-form image. By confining the gas discharge to the vicinity of a small number of conductor rows, unwanted background luminosity is substantially minimized on the display screen.

Gas display device with a profiled cathode

A control plate for a flat plasma screen, comprising a carrier plate of multi-layer construction, having at least three layers, the middle layer of which is of metal and the outer layers of which are glass. In the manufacture of the control apertures which extend through the control plate, an etching procedure may be employed, involving a series of etching steps with different etching agents, whereby only slight underetchings arise and the control plate maintains sufficient mechanical stability, even with a medium overall thickness. The manufacture of the control apertures may also be effected by a laser-boring operation or the like, in which the metallic middle layer carries off heat developed during the operation, whereby no thermal fissure formations are created.

A gas discharge panel which has a gas discharge space formed by a control plate and a cathode on a back plate and a post acceleration space formed between the control plate and the front plate with a screen and anode which control plate has perforations, and row and column conductors characterized by an improvement of providing a lamellar lattice structure comprising a plurality of strips of material in the space between the cathode and the control plate to obstruct the direct passage of metal ions, photons, and electrons between the cathode and the control plate.

A cylindrical domain memory has a storage medium constructed in layer form which is provided with cylindrical domains which are magnetized at right angles to the layer plane, the magnetization being directed opposite to the magnetization of the surrounding material and to that of the magnetic bias field. A propagation structure has an overlay pattern of individual elements of magnetizable material applied in the form of layers to the one layer plane and a rotary magnetic field is directed parallel to the layer plane, which field causes displacement of the cylindrical domains along a path determined by the propagation structure. The propagation structure comprises L-shaped individual elements which are staggered in stepped fashion relative to one another.

A method of manufacturing microscopically small metal structures which are used in a memory which has cylindrical magnetic domains or magnetic bubbles characterized by creating patterns or channels in a first photo-resist layer disposed on an Ni-Fe layer which was vapor deposited on a storage layer to expose portions of the Ni-Fe layer corresponding to a pattern for guide loop generators, domain annihilators, control lines and/or read lines, electroplating a first gold layer on the Ni-Fe layer, electroplating a Ni-P layer on the first gold layer, and then placing a second and third gold layer successively on top of the Ni-P layer, removing the first photo-resist layer, applying a second photo-resist layer and forming channels or patterns therein to expose portions of the Ni-Fe layer which patterns or channels correspond to the manipulative patterns or domain extenders, electroplating a fourth gold layer in the exposed portions of the Ni-Fe layer, depositing a thick Ni-Fe layer on the fourth gold layer and then removing the second photo-resist layer, applying a third photo-resist layer, exposing and developing the third photo-resist layer to leave the photo-resist layer on the portions to form the detector strips and portions overlapping read line, removing the Ni-Fe layers which have been vapor deposited on the storage layer by etching the zones which are free of the photo-resist and subsequently removing the third photo-resist layer.
