A method and an apparatus for posttreatment of exhaust gases of internal combustion engines after an engine operation includes an intake system and an exhaust gas treatment system with an exhaust gas catalytic converter. After an engine operation, with the exhaust gas catalytic converter at operating temperature, the throttle device in the intake system is closed.
