A multi-string monitoring system that includes a processor. The processor obtains electromagnetic (EM) log measurements of a well having at least one inner tubing string and at least one outer tubing string, the measurements including first channel measurements for higher resolution and second channel measurements for deeper penetration. The processor inverts the first channel measurements over a characterization region of the well and the second channel measurements over the characterization region of the well, to obtain an attribute of the at least one outer tubing string and an attribute of the at least one inner tubing string, based, at least in part, on a first plurality of calibration coefficients and a second plurality of calibration coefficients. The processor stores the attribute of the at least one outer tubing string and the attribute of the at least one inner tubing string as a function of position along the well.

Tool and method to make high resolution and high penetration measurement of corrosion

Methods and devices used to calibrate EM corrosion detection tools may estimate the effects of the presence of a core on measurements to enable more accurate corrosion detection in the well line. The methods may involve sending voltages to a core of a well tool disposed in the well line to obtain signals while the core is in a saturated and unsaturated state. Subsequent measurements using the core may be calibrated using a constant resulting from the division of the signals achieved at the core in the saturated and unsaturated states.

A method may comprise disposing an electromagnetic logging tool downhole; emitting an electromagnetic field from the transmitter; energizing a casing with the electromagnetic field to produce an eddy current; recording the eddy current from the casing with the receiver; creating a variable-density-log from the recorded eddy current; selecting a wrapping period for the variable-density-log; creating a wrapped-variable-density-log from the variable-density-log using the wrapping period; and determining at least one collar location and a pipe index with the wrapped-variable-density-log. A system for to detect a collar may comprise an electromagnetic logging tool. The electromagnetic logging tool may comprise a transmitter and a receiver, wherein the transmitter and the receiver may be a coil. The system may further comprise an information handling system.

Workflow and visualization for localization of concentric pipe collars

A method for three dimensional visualization and manipulation of downhole data. A measured signal is received a downhole environment and a three dimensional virtualization of the measured signal is generated. A stereographic viewer displays the three dimensional virtualization of the measured signal. The three dimensional virtualization can be manipulated in response to an input from a user, thereby creating a manipulated three dimensional virtualization. The stereographic viewer can display the manipulated three dimensional virtualization.

Interactive virtual reality manipulation of downhole data

A method and system for resistivity imaging may comprise disposing a downhole tool into a borehole, wherein the downhole tool comprises a pad and a plurality of electrodes disposed on the pad, taking an impedance measurement with the plurality of electrodes, applying a correction to the measured impedance by using a relaxation constant of the measured impedance to find a corrected impedance for each electrode of the plurality of electrodes, and constructing an image from the corrected impedance, wherein the image maps formation impedance. The system for resistivity imaging may comprise a downhole tool, a conveyance for disposing the downhole tool in a borehole, and an information handling system. The downhole tool may further comprise an arm and a pad wherein the pad comprises a plurality of electrodes and at least one return electrode.

Method for combined resistivity and permitivity determination with borehole imagers

Apparatus and methods to investigate a multiple nested conductive pipe structure can be implemented in a variety of applications. An electromagnetic pulsed tool disposed in the multiple nested conductive pipe structure in a wellbore can make a set of log measurements and provide a measured log at different depths in the multiple nested conductive pipe structure. The total thickness of the multiple nested conductive pipes can be determined at each depth in the measured log using a remote field eddy current look-up curve. The remote field eddy current look-up curve can be correlated to a remote field eddy current regime in time-domain associated with time decay response. Additional apparatus, systems, and methods are disclosed.

Downhole ranging from multiple wellbores. In one example, multiple transmitters and multiple receivers are disposed in multiple wellbores to exchange electromagnetic signals. By implementing a full compensation technique, a computer system determines multiple compensated signals. A compensated signal is determined from a signal received from a first wellbore and a second signal received from a second wellbore. In another example, a first transmitter is disposed in a first wellbore, a first receiver is disposed in a second wellbore, and either a second transmitter or a second receiver is disposed in either the first wellbore or the second wellbore. By implementing partial compensation techniques, a computer system determines compensated signals. Using the compensated signals, the computer system determines a position of a first wellbore relative to a second wellbore, and provides the position.

Downhole ranging from multiple boreholes

An apparatus includes a processor and a machine-readable medium having program code executable by the processor to cause the apparatus to obtain a scan result based on a core sample, generate a set of contours of the scan result, and generate a set of object associations, wherein the set of object associations includes a first object association that is associated with a first contour from the set of contours and a second contour from the set of contours. The program code also generates a set of contour connections, wherein the set of contour connections includes a first contour connection that is based on the first object association. The program code also generates a reconstructed core having a three-dimensional space based on the set of contour connections, wherein the three-dimensional space includes a volume greater than the core sample.

Borehole coring reconstructions using borehole scans

A disclosed downhole drilling system may include a drill bit electrically coupled to a pulse-generating circuit to generate electrical arcs between first and second electrodes during pulsed drilling operations, a sensor to record responses to electromagnetic or acoustic waves produced by the electrical arcs, and a sensor analysis system. The electrical arcs occur at different azimuthal locations between the electrodes. The sensor analysis system may obtain a plurality of measurements representing first responses recorded by the sensor during a pulsed drilling operation, generate a model of a source of the electrical arcs based on the measurements, obtain an additional measurement representing a second response recorded by the sensor during the operation, and determine a characteristic of a formation near the drill bit using an inversion based on the model and the additional measurement. The determined characteristic may be used to determine dip parameters or construct images of the formation.

System and method for determining formation characteristics using electrical arc modeling

Disclosed herein are methods and system for formation fluid sampling. In at least some embodiments, the method includes pumping formation fluid from a public flow line of a downhole tool via a private flow line into a detachable sample chamber. The method also includes isolating the private flow line from the public flow line. The method also includes collecting measurements of the formation fluid in the private flow line. The method also includes associating the measurements with the detachable sample chamber.

Pipe]parameter determinations from electromagnetic logs can be improved, in accordance with various embodiments, by weighting signals with frequencies below a threshold associated with resolution degradation lower than signals with frequencies above the threshold. Adjustable frequency processing of electromagnetic logging data

Apparatus and methods can be implemented to monitor the condition of the production and intermediate casing strings in oil and gas field operations. A series of measurements can be made in a multi-pipe structure and received responses can be operated on by employing a mapping optimization procedure in which a surrogate model is updated. Estimates of one or more properties of the pipes of the multi-pipe structure can be generated using coefficients of the updated surrogate model. In some embodiments, a downhole drilling system may include a pulse-generating circuit, a drill bit including a first pair of electrodes electrically coupled to the pulse-generating circuit to receive a first electrical pulse from the pulse-generating circuit and form a first electrical arc between the first pair of electrodes during a pulsed drilling operation. The system further includes a sensor to record responses to the first electrical pulse during the pulsed drilling operation and a sensor analysis system communicatively coupled to the sensor, where the sensor analysis system is configured to obtain a first measurement from the sensor representing the responses recorded by the sensor during the pulsed drilling operation. Additionally, the system may determine a first value of a dielectric constant associated with a portion of a formation in proximity to the drill bit, where the first value of the dielectric constant is based on the first measurement.

Systems and methods for dielectric mapping during pulsed-power drilling

Fiber optic sensors are described for detecting the operational position of a downhole moveable device. In one example, an electric or magnetic field is emitted into the wellbore and interacts with the moveable assembly, thereby producing a secondary electric or magnetic field. The secondary field is detected by a fiber optic sensor which produces a corresponding response signal. The response signal is then processed in a variety of ways to determine the operational position of the moveable device. In another example, the operational position is determined using fiber optic temperature or acoustic sensors. A temperature or acoustic vibration reading is acquired before and after actuation of the moveable device. The two readings are then compared to determine the operation position of the moveable device.
