An ultrasound diagnostic device that transmits a push pulse in order to detect shear waves, including a push pulse transmitter, a displacement detector, an evaluator, and a push pulse adjuster. The push pulse transmitter transmits the push pulse based on a transmission profile. The displacement detector repeatedly transmits ultrasound into the subject after the push pulse, receives reflected ultrasound from the subject that corresponds to transmitted ultrasound, and detects displacement due to shear waves caused by the push pulse. The evaluator evaluates shear wave propagation based on detected displacement. The push pulse adjuster adjusts the transmission profile based on evaluation results. Attempts to achieve a higher resolution and a higher frame rate of a distance image when a distance to an object within a target space is estimated using the TOF method would cause CCD saturation due to shot noise or environment light, and lower distance precision. A distance estimation apparatus illuminates an object with illumination light for distance estimation emitted from a light source that can emit light (electromagnetic wave) having a predetermined illumination frequency, receives reflected light of the illumination light, obtains information about the distance from the apparatus to the object, generates distance image data based on the distance information, extracts edge information of a color image formed using a visible light component obtained in synchronization with the reflected light, and corrects distance information of a target part of the distance image using distance information of a neighboring part of the target part based on the edge information.

On the display screen of a video signal display device, when the emission amount is monotonically lowered toward the screen periphery from a certain point (screen center), if there are a plurality of regions that viewers notice easily (such as faces), then correction by monotically decreasing the emission amount cannot always raise the signal level in the regions that are noticed, and it may not be possible to obtain a sufficient sense of brightness. In the video signal processing device, a multiple object detection portion detects a plurality of objects that are included in a unit image, and a correction gain is calculated such that when the unit image is displayed on the display device, a point on the display screen at which an emission amount that is lower than the emission amount on the display screen at a point that is substantially in the center between any two objects is in a region between the points substantially in the center of the two objects, and the input video signal is corrected with that correction gain. Thus, it is possible to maintain a sense of brightness about a plurality of objects on the display screen that are readily noticed by viewers, while suppressing power usage by the display device that displays the video signal.
