Frac ball dispensers as well systems and methods employing such are disclosed. Configurations for remotely moving the frac ball dispensers in the vicinity of an open wellhead as well as remotely activating and verifying the dispensement of frac balls from the dispensers into the open wellhead are specifically provided. Configurations of frac ball dispensers to control access to frac balls therein as well as the dispensement of frac balls therefrom are also provided.

An impact dissipation tool for supporting a downhole tool in downhole applications. The tool includes a base and a housing. The tool also includes a carriage located within the housing and coupled to the base, the carriage being movable relative to the housing upon a predetermined impact force. A dissipator disposed inside the housing is collapsible due to the relative movement of the carriage and the housing. The collapse of the dissipator dissipates the impact force transferred to the downhole tool.

Provided herein are various embodiments of casing collar locator (CCL) tools, circuits and methods, which enable a CCL tool to selectively operate in passive or active mode. More specifically, a dual-mode CCL tool is provided herein with a mode selection circuit, which may be coupled between a coil of the CCL tool and a wireline of a well survey system. The mode selection circuit may be generally configured to detect a voltage on the wireline, connect the coil of the CCL tool to the wireline if the detected voltage is less than a threshold voltage, and connect the coil of the CCL tool to an amplifier circuit if the detected voltage is greater than or equal to the threshold voltage. The mode selection circuit described herein therefore enables a single CCL tool to be used for a variety of different downhole operations, including but not limited to wireline logging and well perforation jobs.

A hang-off tool for supporting a tool inside a tubular member includes a logging string configured to generate logging data, a computing system coupled to the logging string and configured to communicate the logging data to another tool, and a radially expandable member having a retracted position and an expanded position. The radially expandable member is configured to engage a radially-increased profile of an inner surface of the tubular member in the expanded position to support the hang-off tool. The radially expandable member is also configured not to engage the radially-increased profile in the retracted position.

Embodiments of the present invention generally relate to methods and systems for logging through a drillstring. In one embodiment, a method of logging an exposed formation includes drilling a wellbore by rotating a cutting tool disposed on an end of a drillstring and injecting drilling fluid through the drillstring; deploying a BHA through the drillstring, the BHA including a logging tool; forming a bore through the cutting tool; inserting the logging tool through the bore; longitudinally connecting the BHA to the drillstring; and logging the exposed formation using the logging tool while tripping the drillstring into or from the wellbore.

An electromagnetic logging tool is disclosed that includes a support; and at least one four-coil array disposed on the support, wherein the at least one four-coil array comprises: a transmitter, a bucking coil, a receiver, and a trim coil. A method for balancing an induction array is disclosed that includes applying an alternating current to a transmitter of the induction array that comprises the transmitter, a bucking coil and a receiver; measuring a mutual coupling between the transmitter and the receiver; and adding an extra bucking coil, if the mutual coupling exceeds a selected criterion.
