A minimum quantity lubrication (MQL) tool including a lance. The lance includes a passageway and an orifice. The passageway extends axially from a first end of the lance toward a second end of the lance and allows a lubricant supply to flow therein from the first end of the lance toward the second end of the lance. The first orifice extends radially through the lance at a location near the second end of the lance. The lubricant supply flowing through the passageway exits the orifice and is impinged upon by air flowing around the lance.

A method for shaping a blind slot in a workpiece includes using a standard computer numerical controlled machine center to radially step a single slot broaching tool into a precursor slot in the workpiece for a predetermined distance to form a slot with a blind end. After the slot with the blind end is formed, the method includes rotating at least one of the workpiece and the single slot broaching tool and radially stepping the single slot broaching tool into another precursor slot for another predetermined distance to form another slot with another blind end in the workpiece. The another predetermined distance is the same as the predetermined distance, or in the alternative, the another predetermined distance is different than the predetermined distance.

A fuel pressure sensor which receives air from an intake manifold and fuel from a fuel rail and which uses the received air and fuel to measure the fuel pressure within the fuel rail . The fuel pressure sensor further including a semi-permeable membrane or member which allows the air to pass into the fuel pressure sensor while concomitantly preventing the fuel from passing into the intake manifold

A fuel tank pressure sensor assembly includes a pressure sensing element portion and a rollover valve portion. An area of reduced section between the sensor element portion and the valve portion provides a controlled fracture location for the pressure sensor assembly. In addition, the valve portion prevents inadvertent closure under normal vehicle operating conditions.

An onboard diagnostic mechanism for a sealed vehicle fuel delivery system. By controlling fuel system valves, the electronic engine controller (EEC) periodically subjects the sealed system to an initial vacuum level, then monitors the pressure increase due to evaporative effects during a predetermined test interval. Excessive deviations in measured pressure compared to predetermined criteria produce indications of potential undesired operational conditions. To prevent fuel sloshing which results from aggressive driving or rough roads from producing false output indications, the instantaneous system pressure is compared with a rolling average of tank pressure to produce a difference signal indicative of fuel sloshing. If the resulting difference signal exceeds a predetermined threshold, the monitoring process is aborted in favor of a later test after the fuel sloshing condition terminates.

In one embodiment of the present invention, a vapor management system for the fuel system of a motor vehicle includes two carbon canisters for the capturing of fuel vapor from the vehicle's fuel tank. A fuel vapor control valve allows loading of the fuel vapor into the canisters in series and subsequent purging in parallel to the air intake of the vehicle's engine.

A method and system for monitoring an evaporative purge system for malfunctions and leaks. First, a plurality of predetermined entry conditions are checked for satisfaction. If the plurality of predetermined entry conditions have been met, a flow of vapor in the evaporative purge system is determined. The evaporative purge system is then sealed from atmosphere so as to pull a vacuum on the fuel tank. The vacuum is compared to a predetermined vacuum range. If the vacuum is within the predetermined vacuum range, the vacuum is allowed to stabilize to obtain a stabilized vacuum level. A decrease in the stabilized vacuum level is determined after a predetermined amount of time to obtain a vacuum bleed-up. A vacuum bleed-up acceptance threshold is then determined based on the determined flow of vapor and the vacuum bleed-up is then compared to the vacuum bleed-up acceptance threshold. If the vacuum bleed-up exceeds the vacuum bleed-up acceptance threshold, atmosphere is provided to the evaporative purge system until stabilization. The evaporative purge system is then sealed again to create a pressure build. The pressure build is compared to a pressure threshold. Finally, a malfunction signal is generated if the pressure build is less than the pressure threshold.

Method and system for monitoring an evaporative purge system

An evaporative purge flow monitoring system is provided for use in a motor vehicle having a fuel tank and an internal combustion engine having an intake manifold. The purge flow monitoring system includes an evaporation canister in fluid communication with the fuel tank and a canister purge valve in fluid communication with the fuel tank and evaporation canister. A thermistor/resistor network is further provided in fluid communication with the canister purge valve and the intake manifold. An electronic engine control (EEC) assembly is similarly provided in electrical communication with the canister purge valve and the thermistor/resistor network such that the EEC is adapted to determine the voltage difference across the thermistor/resistor network resulting from discrete measurements within the canister purge valve duty cycle during a selected window of operation and compare the determined voltage difference to a calibrated difference so as to detect malfunctions of the canister purge valve.
