Described herein is a dicarboxylic acid compound of formula (I): Wherein: Rcomprises an aryl group, Ris an alkylene group comprising 1 to 6 carbon atoms, n is 0 or 1, Ris H or CH, and X is S or NZ, wherein Z is H, an alkyl group comprising 1 to 4 carbon atoms or a phenyl group. Such compounds can be used to modify the surface of inorganic particles. These modified inorganic particles may then be advantageously used in polymerizable resins to increase the refractive index of the resulting composite, while enabling good flow properties of the polymerizable composition.

The present disclosure provides an article including a layer having a nanostructured first surface including nanofeatures and an opposing second surface, and an organic layer including a major surface attached to a portion of the nanofeatures. The nanostructured first surface includes protruding features that are formed of a single composition and/or recessed features. The nanofeatures and the major surface of the second layer together define at least one void. The present disclosure also provides a method of making the article including contacting nanofeatures of a layer having a nanostructured surface with a major surface of an organic layer and reacting at least one material to secure the two layers together. In addition, the present disclosure provides an optical information display and an OLED device including the article. The nanostructured surface of the article is protected from damage and contamination by the organic layer.

A composition is described comprising a styrene-isobutylene block copolymer; and at least one ethylenically unsaturated monomer. After curing the composition comprises polymerized units of the ethylenically unsaturated monomer. Curable ink compositions include at least one aromatic (meth)acrylate, at least one multifunctional (meth)acrylate with heteroaromatic groups, fused aromatic groups, heteroalkylene groups, or a group containing both heteroalkylene and aromatic groups, and a photoinitiator. The curable ink composition is Inkjet printable, having a viscosity of 30 centipoise or less at a temperature of from room temperature to 35&#xb0; C., and is free from solvents. The ink composition, when printed and cured has a refractive index of 1.55 or greater, and is optically clear. The cured ink composition, when cured to a thickness of from 1-16 micrometers, has a surface roughness of less than or equal to 5 nanometers.

Curable, coatable compositions include silane surface-treated inorganic nanoparticles with a high refractive index, and a curable reaction mixture. The curable reaction mixture includes a first (meth)acrylate monomer comprising a high refractive index (meth)acrylate monomer with a refractive index of 1.6 or higher, a second (meth)acrylate monomer comprising a lower refractive index (meth)acrylate monomer with a refractive index of less than 1.6, and at least one initiator. Cured optical coatings prepared from the compositions are optically clear, having a visible light transmission of at least 88% and a haze of 5% or less, and have a refractive index of at least 1.78, and are capable of passing a 10 millimeter mandrel flexibility test.

Each microstructure has a first region and a second region different from the first region, a substantially constant height in the first region and a non-constant maximum height in the second region greater than the substantially constant height in the first region, and a same lateral cross sectional shape in the first region and the second region.

A multifunctional polymerizable ionic liquid is described comprising an anion and a cationic group having at least two ethylenically unsaturated polymerizable groups, each bonded to the cationic group via a divalent non-alkyl linking group. The multifunctional linking groups independently comprise a heteroatom such as oxygen or nitrogen. The linking groups may independently comprise one or more linkages such as an amide, urea, and more typically a urethane or ester linkage. The ethylenically unsaturated polymerizable groups are typically (meth)acrylate groups. Coatings and coated articles are also described.

Polymerizable ionic liquid comprising multifunctional cation and antistatic coatings

Presently described are microstructured films, such as brightness enhancing films, having a microstructured surface. The microstructured surface comprises the reaction product of a polymerizable composition comprising at least 20 wt-% of inorganic nanoparticles and a non-aromatic multi-(meth)acrylate monomer comprising at least three contiguous alkylene oxide repeat units. The multi-(meth)acrylate monomer typically comprises two or three (meth)acrylate groups. The alkylene oxide repeat units have the formula &#x2014;[O-L]- wherein each L is independently a C-Calkylene. Also described is a polymerizable resin composition comprising at least 20 wt-% of inorganic nanoparticles having a refractive index of at least 1.68 and a non-aromatic multi-(meth)acrylate monomer comprising at least three contiguous alkylene oxide repeat units.

Presently described are optical films, such as a brightness enhancing film, having a polymerized microstructured surface disposed on a preformed polymeric film wherein the film has a thickness of no greater than 3 mils and the polymerized microstructured surface consists of the reaction product of a substantially non-brominated polymerizable resin composition.
