A sub-assembly for a housing of a gas generating system is provided. The sub-assembly includes a housing portion and an insert attached to the housing portion such that at least a portion of a force applied to one of the housing portion and the attached insert is transferred through the attachment to the other one of the housing portion and the attached insert. A housing, a gas generating system, and a vehicle occupant protection system incorporating the sub-assembly are also disclosed.

Housing structure for gas generating system

A housing for an initiator module is provided. The housing includes at least one wall defining a hollow interior having a first region, a second region and a third region, the first region having a first width, the second region having a second width less than the first width, and the third region having a third width greater than the second width.

Gas generating system with initiator sub-assembly

A base assembly is provided for a gas generating system. The assembly includes a base having at least one opening formed therein, and an initiator assembly attached to the base so as to form a gas-tight seal surrounding the at least one opening. A retainer is attached to the base and includes an opening into which a portion of the initiator assembly extends. The retainer is attached to the initiator assembly along the retainer opening.
