An elevator system includes an elevator car constructed and arranged to travel in a hoistway. A linear propulsion system of the elevator system is configured to impart a force upon the elevator car to control movement of the car. The linear propulsion system includes a secondary portion mounted to the elevator car and having a plurality of magnets. A first primary portion of the linear propulsion system includes a mounting assembly, a plurality of coils engaged to the mounting assembly, and a first cooling device including at least one conduit projecting outward from the mounting assembly and into the hoistway for transferring heat.

A method and system for managing an elevator system (), includes providing a plurality of elevator cars () to travel in a hoistway (), and selectively introducing and removing at least one of the plurality of elevator cars () to and from the hoistway () via a loading station ().

Configurable multicar elevator system

A ropeless elevator system includes a vertically extending first lane, a vertically extending second lane, and a transfer station extending between and in communication with the first and second lanes. An elevator car is disposed in and is constructed and arranged to move through the transfer station and the first and second lanes. A propulsion system of the elevator system propels the elevator car through at least the first and second lanes and carries a supplemental DC energy storage device for providing supplemental energy to the elevator car during normal operation. A wireless power transfer system of the elevator system is configured to periodically charge the DC energy storage device.

Elevator car power supply

An exemplary fire suppression system includes a sprinkler nozzle. At least one conduit is connected to the nozzle for delivering a fire suppression fluid to the nozzle. The conduit and the nozzle establish a discharge path. A pneumatically driven pump is connected with the conduit for pumping fluid into the conduit. A gas source provides pressurized gas to the pump for driving the pump. The gas source also provides gas to the discharge path for achieving a desired discharge of the fluid from the nozzle.

Fire suppression system with dual use of gas source

A fire suppression sprinkler assembly coupled to a mounting surface includes a sprinkler having a heat responsive element arranged adjacent a first end. A cover plate is positioned adjacent the heat responsive element and includes a thermally conductive cover layer. A reflective shield has a reflective interior surface. The reflective shield is positioned substantially opposite the cover plate adjacent the first end of the sprinkler such that heat reflects from the top plate towards the heat responsive element.

Concealed sprinkler activation

An exemplary fire suppression system includes a sprinkler nozzle. At least one conduit is connected to the nozzle for delivering a fire suppression fluid to the nozzle. The conduit and the nozzle establish a discharge path. A pneumatically driven pump is connected with the conduit for pumping fluid into the conduit. A gas source provides pressurized gas to the pump for driving the pump. The gas source also provides gas to the discharge path for achieving a desired discharge of the fluid from the nozzle. A controller selectively controls at least one of (i) the gas provided to the pump, which controls the fluid pressure in the conduit, or (ii) the gas provided to the nozzle or the conduit, which controls the gas pressure delivered to the nozzle.

A system for detecting a person relative to a passenger conveyor includes a driving circuit for supplying an oscillating drive signal to a first electrode of a capacitive sensor configured to produce an electric field toward a second electrode in response to the oscillating drive signal. A detection circuit is connected to the capacitive sensor, and produces an output as a function of the capacitance of the capacitive sensor, such that the detection circuit senses a change in capacitance of the capacitive sensor, such as when a person enters the electric field between the first and second electrodes. A controller is responsive to the change in capacitance sensed by the detection circuit to selectively adjust an operation mode of the passenger conveyor.

An apparatus for detecting an objectin an area adjacent a doorway includes a plurality of transducers US, USmounted proximate the doorway and a processor. At least one of the transducers USis positioned to repeatedly transmit signals Ttoward an area adjacent the doorway. The processoris operably connected to the plurality of transducers for detecting, in the area adjacent the doorway, an objectby determining the object's: position based upon one or more determined distances d, dderived from times between transmission of signals and reception of corresponding return signals; and/or movement based upon transmission of signals and Doppler shift in the reception of corresponding return signals.

Door zone protection

An elevator door assembly () includes an electromagnet () use as part of a door coupler for coupling elevator car doors () to elevator hoistway doors (). A disclosed example includes an electromagnet core () with a gap () in one of four sides of the core. The gap () directs and concentrates magnetic flux of the electromagnet () to concentrate an attractive force for coupling the electromagnet () with a vane (). Disclosed examples includes unique geometric and dimensional relationships to achieve a desired goodness factor.

Electromagnet and elevator door coupler

An electromagnetic coupling device includes a vane member and an electromagnet. The electromagnet includes a core having a plurality of poles comprising at least four poles. An electrically conductive winding has a first portion surrounding a first one of the poles and a second portion surrounding a second one of the poles. The winding is selectively energized for selectively magnetically coupling the electromagnet and the vane member such that the vane member and the electromagnet are movable together in a desired direction.

An exemplary magnetic coupling device () useful for coupling elevator doors includes a core () having an exterior surface. An active portion () of the surface is configured to direct a magnetic flux associated with the core in a desired direction for facilitating elevator door coupling. An interruption () in the exterior surface near the active portion () is configured to establish a relatively high magnetic saturation in the core in a vicinity of the interruption ().

Magnetic door coupling device for an elevator system

An elevator system includes a cab supported for movement within a hoistway. A tension device, which remains close to one end of the hoistway, maintains a desired tension on a load bearing member that supports the cab and moves to achieve a desired placement of the cab. The load bearing member extends from a first end of the hoistway toward the cab, wraps around a first sheave supported on the cab, extends toward the first end of the hoistway, wraps around a second sheave supported near the first end of the hoistway, extends toward a second end of the hoistway, wraps about a third sheave supported near the second end of the hoistway, extends toward the cab, wraps around a fourth sheave supported on the cab, and extends toward the second end of the hoistway where it is secured to the tension device.

Elevator system without a moving counterweight

An electromagnetic door lock assembly () includes a first portion () supported relative to hoistway doors () and a second portion () supported for movement with an elevator car (). The first and second portions cooperate so that electromagnetic interaction between them unlocks a set of hoistway doors () for access to the car (), for example. In disclosed embodiments, a first portion () of the actuator has at least one stationary electromagnetic portion (A,B) and at least one moveable portion (). The second portion () that moves with the car () includes at least one stationary electromagnetic portion (). Magnetic interaction between the first and second portions () causes selected movement of the moveable portion () for selectively locking or unlocking the doors ().

Electromagnetically operated elevator door lock

An elevator car assembly () includes a frame () having a horizontal plank beam () beneath a platform assembly (). A plurality of braces () support the platform assembly () relative to the frame. The braces () include at least one slot associated with a fastener () to facilitate adjusting a position of the platform assembly () relative to the frame. Adjusting the position of the platform assembly () allows for leveling the car frame assembly in an economical manner that does not require the introduction of weights or other expensive balancing measures.

An elevator door lock assembly () includes a sensor device () for providing an indication of a properly locked door. A plurality of proximity sensor elements () interact with activating elements () when the door lock assembly () is properly locked. In disclosed examples, a specific geometric pattern of the sensor elements () and the activating elements () provides redundancy and tampering protection. In a disclosed example, an output from the sensor device () provides an indication of a condition of the door lock and a building level location of a plurality of sensor devices.
