A biopsy system includes a biopsy device, a control module, and a tissue transport tube. The biopsy device includes a probe, a needle, a cutter, and a transport valve. The needle extends distally from the probe. The cutter is movable relative to the needle and defines a cutter lumen. The holster is configured to couple to the probe. The transport valve is in communication with the cutter lumen. The control module is in communication with the biopsy device and includes a sample management assembly configured to receive one or more tissue samples severed by the cutter. The transport tube extends between the sample management assembly and the biopsy device. The transport tube is in communication with the transport valve such that the transport tube is configured to receive the one or more tissue samples severed by the cutter.

A biopsy device includes a body, a needle, a tissue sample holder and a sensor. The needle extends from the body. The tissue sample holder is in communication with the needle to receive one or more tissue samples within a sample chamber defined by the tissue sample holder. The tissue sample holder includes a receiving cavity. The sensor is configured to detect x-rays. The receiving cavity is sized and shaped to receive the sensor such that the sensor is removably positioned within the tissue sample holder.

A biopsy marker may include three shaped portions arranged sequentially along an axis, each shaped portion having a first surface and a second surface parallel to the first surface. A first narrow portion connects a first of the three shaped portions to a second of the three shaped portions. The first narrow portion is twisted about the axis such that the first surface of the first shaped portion is at a first angle to the first surface of the second shaped portion. The second narrow portion is twisted about the axis such that the first surface of the second shaped portion is at a second angle to the first surface of the third shaped portion.

The staple cartridge includes a cartridge body, a lower tray, and a plurality of staples. The cartridge body and the lower tray are configured to couple together. The retention cap is configured to fasten to a proximal end of the cartridge body and to engage the lower tray. The retention cap is further configured to fix the position of the lower tray relative to the cartridge body.

A biopsy device includes a body, a needle, a hollow cutter, and a tissue sample holder. The needle extends distally from the body and includes a lateral aperture. The cutter is movable relative to the needle to sever a tissue sample and defines a cutter lumen. The tissue sample holder includes a manifold and an outer cover. The manifold includes a plurality of passages and an indexing portion. Each passage of the plurality of passages is configured to selectively index relative to a proximal end of the hollow cutter. The outer cover includes a resilient member. The resilient member is configured to engage with the indexing portion of the manifold to selectively index a passage of the plurality of passages with the distal end of the hollow cutter.

Biopsy device

A sample collection and processing apparatus includes a tissue processing cassette and a biopsy device. The tissue processing cassette is sized to be used in a pathology laboratory for purposes of dehydrating, embedding and sectioning. The tissue processing cassette has at least one distal opening through which tissue samples are received and has a floor with a plurality of openings. The biopsy device has a cassette holder adapted to receive the tissue processing cassette. The cassette holder has a fluid path adapted to be coupled to a vacuum source and in fluid communication with the interior of the tissue processing cassette through the openings of the floor such that vacuum from the vacuum source facilitates the transfer of the cut tissue samples into the received tissue processing cassette.

A method of obtaining and analyzing at least one tissue sample includes forming, in a tissue container, first tracking data associated with the at least one tissue sample. Second tracking data is formed, in a transport container. The second tracking data is associated with the at least one tissue sample. The at least one tissue sample is placed in the tissue container. The first and second tracking data from the tissue container and the transport container are scanned with an electronic scanning system to ensure that the first and second tracking data are both associated with the removed tissue sample.

A marker delivery device including a delivery catheter, a marker, and a push rod. The delivery catheter is adapted to be inserted into a biopsy site and having a discharge opening. The marker having a coating layer disposed on the surface of a core. The coating layer includes an adhesive with a plurality of microbubbles. The microbubbles are configured to enhance visibility of the marker under ultrasound imaging. The marker is positioned inside the delivery catheter near the discharge opening. The push rod is positioned within the delivery catheter and is adapted to deploy the marker from the delivery catheter into the biopsy site.

The tray chamber is configured to receive at least a portion of the tray through a tray opening of the proximal end.
