A computer-implemented method using a wearable device comprising collecting sensor data generated from one or more sensors of the wearable device and identifying a prompt for the user to engage in a wellness-related activity at a time for presentation, and presenting the prompt at the time for presentation. The method also includes determining that the wearable device is not being worn by the user, transmitting to a host device of an electronic coaching system a notification that the wearable device is not being worn by the user, and deactivating the one or more sensors in response to a determination that the wearable device is not being worn by the user.

Systems and methods are provided for, in response to determining that an election to opt into a privacy policy has not been received from the user (or that an election to opt out of the privacy policy has been received from the user) using limited functionality of a data provider system to select, from a set of candidate data items and using a particular selection criterion (not based on personal information of the user), data items to be transmitted. Systems and methods for applying privacy preferences of a user to a data provider system

A host device can establish a verified session with a wearable device. The host device can determine whether the verified session is in progress. In accordance with a determination that the verified session is in progress, the host device can provide a user interface to request confirmation that the identifier is to be provided to the wearable device. The host device can receive an input at the user interface and, in accordance with a determination that the input indicates a confirmation that the identifier is to be provided to the wearable device, the host can identify a user identifier to provide to the wearable device, and transmit the user identifier to the wearable device.

Facilitating a secure session between paired devices

An image of at least a portion of a room may be received, the image of the room comprising an image of a sensor mounted in the room. At least one optical parameter related to the image of the room may also be received. A distance may be determined between the sensor and a camera that captured the image of the room, wherein the determination of the distance is based at least in part on the optical parameters and on known physical dimensions of the sensor. A sensitivity requirement of the sensor may be determined, based on the distance. The determined sensitivity may be sent to control logic of the sensor.

Automated wellness coaching can be based at least in part on personality characteristics of the user. A coaching system, which can include one or more electronic devices that a user might carry or wear during daily activities, can present prompts at selected times to encourage a user to engage in various wellness activities and can measure the user's responsiveness. The content of a prompt, as well as the time, place, and/or manner of presenting the prompt, can be adapted to a personality profile maintained for the user and updated over time as the user interacts with the system. The system may also include capabilities to set specific wellness goals for the user and to prompt the user to actions aimed at the goal; goals can be modified and adapted based on the user's personality profile.

Systems and methods of using active infrared (AIR) sensors to map a room of a home or building and determine whether an external portal (e.g., window and/or door) of the room is open or closed are provided. In particular, the systems and methods include outputting infrared (IR) light from an IR light source of an active infrared (AIR) sensor, receiving reflected IR light with a light sensor, and determining, with a processor coupled to the light sensor, whether a window of a room is open according to the received reflected IR light.

Systems and methods of detection with active infrared sensors

A device may emit a first emission sequence of infrared radiation at a subject, and capture a first reflected sequence of infrared radiation reflected from the subject. The first emission sequence may be compared to the first reflected sequence, and, based on the comparison, a sequence of variations may be determined. The sequence of variations may be compared to a signal pattern stored in a sleep profile for the subject. The subject may be determined to have exhibited a sleep behavior based on the comparison of the sequence of variations to the signal pattern stored in the sleep profile. In response to determining that the subject has exhibited the sleep behavior, the device may capture a second reflected sequence of radiation reflected from the subject. A breathing rate of the subject and/or a heart rate of the subject may be determined based on the second reflected sequence.

Using active IR sensor to monitor sleep

A wearable device can establish a verified session with a host device. For example, if a user wearing the wearable device unlocks the host device (e.g., by entering a credential), the devices can create a verified session, which can persist across lock and unlock events at the host device. For the duration of the verified session, a host device can request session confirmation from the wearable device at any time to confirm that the verified session is still in progress. While the session is in progress, the host can make features available such as bypassing re-entry of a credential during unlock operations.

Systems and methods of operating an alarm device of a home security system which integrates one or more sensors of a mobile device when the mobile device is located within a home protected by the home security system are provided. The security system may determine an unauthorized entry to the home based on an operating mode of the home security system and sensor data collected by the one or more sensors of the mobile device. An alarm may be output by the alarm device of the home security system based on the determined unauthorized entry by the home security system.

A system and method for detecting human intruders while rejecting/ignoring an occupant's registered pet. An object detection system is configured to detect an object that is present in a monitored area and generate a signal output relative to the type of object. A signature processor is configured to receive the generated signal output and produce an object signature, and compare a threshold signature to the object signature, wherein the threshold signature is generated using a photograph of a reserved object, and wherein the object detection system rejects the detected object when the object signature is determined to be similar to the threshold signatures.

A mobile device includes a pedometer function that calculates an estimated distance based on sensor measurements. The sensor measurements are used to determine a step frequency of the user, which is used to estimate the distance traveled by the user. To correct for the unique step frequency of the user, a calibration factor is calculated that can be multiplied by the estimated distance to improve the accuracy of the distance estimate. New calibration factors resulting from calibration trials are assigned to step frequency bands. An average calibration factor is calculated for each frequency band. The average calibration factors of the bands are updated to ensure that the average calibration factor of any given band is greater than or equal to the average calibration factors in all lower bands.

A method and apparatus for performing an integrated search is provided. An interface is provided that allows users to search and select any data related to a searchable term. Searchable terms may comprise titles of content, actors, and tags. Upon receiving results from the initial search, the user progresses through the initial search by selecting a result from the initial search and conducting a further search of that selection. The search may progress through many layers of searching in order to find information useful to the user and the user may perform actions based upon results of the search. The search implements a display with two columns, the first column displaying selectable data, and the second column displaying results to the selected data. The search is further customizable based upon a privacy level selected by the user.

Techniques for ensuring that media playback proceeds sequentially through media content of a digital media asset are disclosed. In one embodiment, distinct portions (e.g., segments) of a digital media asset can be separately encrypted such that on playback decoded data being output from at least one prior portion can be used to derive a cryptographic key that is used in decrypting a subsequent portion of the digital media asset.
