An air conditioner unit and a film heating assembly for use in the air conditioner unit, the air conditioner unit comprising a bulkhead defining an indoor portion and an outdoor portion and an indoor fan positioned within the indoor portion for selectively urging a flow of air through an indoor heat exchanger. The film heating assembly comprises a plurality of thick film heaters mounted to the bulkhead and an electrical relay system for selectively coupling the plurality of thick film heaters to an external power source.

A packaged terminal air conditioner unit includes discharge air temperature and humidity sensors in the discharge air stream. Input from the sensors is used to determine the dewpoint temperature of a mixture of outside air and recirculated room air prior to discharge to the conditioned space. The air conditioner unit modifies one or more of indoor fan speed, compressor speed, and an electronically controlled expansion device to adjust the discharge air dewpoint temperature to a predetermined target value.

A defrost cycle is initiated if the frost quantity exceeds a predetermined frost threshold, e.g., in pounds of water.

An air conditioner unit includes a compressor, an exterior coil, a main interior coil, a main expansion device, a reheat interior coil and a reheat expansion device. The reheat interior coil is positioned adjacent the main interior coil. The main expansion device is connected in series between the exterior coil and the main interior coil, and the reheat expansion device is connected in series between the main expansion device and the reheat interior coil. A reheat valve is operable to selectively adjust a flow direction through the reheat interior coil. The reheat valve is a four-way valve, and one port of the four-way valve is blocked.

The air conditioning system includes an outdoor heat exchanger, an indoor heat exchanger, and a reheat heat exchanger. A reheat temperature sensor positioned proximate an upstream end of the reheat heat exchanger in a cooling mode for measuring a reheat coil saturation temperature. A controller adjusts at least one operating parameter, such as a compressor or fan speed, in response to the reheat coil saturation temperature and/or one of an outdoor coil vapor temperature, an indoor coil vapor temperature, an outdoor coil saturation temperature, and an indoor coil saturation temperature.

A sealed system and a method of assembling the sealed system include installing an expansion device such as an electronic expansion valve (EEV) between an indoor heat exchanger and an outdoor heat exchanger. Before or after the expansion device is installed, a predetermined stop position of an adjustable valve is determined, e.g., based on the sealed system capacity. A removable motor assembly moves the adjustable valve to the predetermined stop position and the adjustable valve is permanently fixed within the expansion device, e.g., by removing the motor assembly and/or melting a locking member positioned within the expansion device.

A PTAC controller is operably coupled to a proximity indication device for detecting that a proximity trigger condition exists and is configured for adjusting an operating parameter of the PTAC to adjust an outlet temperature of a flow of discharge air in response to determining that the proximity trigger condition exists. The proximity trigger condition may exist when a proximity sensor detects an occupant close to the PTAC, when a user input button is activated, or when a voice command is received.

Air conditioner units, including methods of operation, are provided herein. The air conditioner unit may include an indoor portion, an outdoor portion, and a compressor in fluid communication between the indoor portion and the outdoor portion. The method may include setting an operating temperature of the indoor portion based on a primary temperature target, determining a humidity value at the indoor portion, comparing the determined humidity value to a humidity threshold, resetting the operating temperature as a temporary temperature target when the determined humidity value is above the humidity threshold and the primary temperature target is reached at the indoor portion of the air conditioner, and directing refrigerant compression at the compressor based on the operating temperature.

A packaged terminal air conditioner unit includes a main expansion device connected to an interior coil such that the main expansion device is operable to throttle a flow of refrigerant to both a first coil section and a second coil section of the interior coil. A secondary expansion device is connected in series between the main expansion device and the second coil section of the interior coil such that the secondary expansion device is operable to throttle a flow of refrigerant to the second coil section of the interior coil. A controller is in operative communication with the secondary expansion device such that the controller adjusts the secondary expansion device to a configuration between a fully open configuration and a fully closed configuration during operation of the compressor.

A packaged terminal air conditioner unit (PTAC) includes a sealed system having an outdoor heat exchanger and an indoor heat exchanger fluidly coupled through a line filter assembly. The line filter assembly includes a housing defining an indoor port having a first cross sectional area and being fluidly coupled to the indoor heat exchanger, a bypass port having a second cross sectional area smaller than the first cross sectional area, and an outdoor port fluidly coupled to the outdoor heat exchanger. A line filter is coupled to outdoor port for filtering the flow of refrigerant passing in one direction and a check valve within the housing prevents flow through the line filter in the opposite direction. A bypass conduit provides fluid communication between the bypass port and the outdoor conduit to bypass the line filter.

Sealed system for a packaged terminal air conditioner unit

A sealed heat exchange system and air conditioner are provided herein. The sealed heat exchange system may include a compressor, a heat exchanger, a line filter, a variable electronic expansion device, a primary fluid path, and an alternate fluid path. The compressor may generally increase a pressure of a flowed refrigerant within the sealed heat exchange system. The heat exchanger may be in fluid communication with the compressor and the line filter may be in fluid communication with the heat exchanger. The primary fluid path may define a fluid inlet to receive the flowed refrigerant downstream of the heat exchanger and upstream of the expansion device. The alternate fluid path may define a fluid inlet to receive the flowed refrigerant downstream of the variable electronic expansion device and upstream of the heat exchanger.
