Dermal drops that, when applied topically to animal subjects, can ameliorate symptoms of conditions such as diabetes and Parkinson's disease are prepared as concentrates of the culture filtrate of afungus grown under appropriate conditions. The concentrate can also be used as a convenient source of liquid compost factor.

Dermal drops

A substantially microbe-free composition containing plant growth regulators is produced by culturing a fungal spawn on high carbohydrate medium under suitable conditions. The culture filtrate is sterilized, formulated, and used to enhance plant growth.

Environmentally safe agricultural supplement

A clear aqueous emulsion of a complex comprising a moiety having a hydrophilic core to which is covalently bound the backbone of at least one monounsaturated C-Cfatty acid and appropriate surfactants is effective in controlling agricultural pests, including nematodes.

Pesticide microemulsions and dispersant/penetrant formulations

More particular the pesticide compositions are provided comprising a fungal metabolite derived from a fungus selected from the group Ganoderma spp., Lactiporus spp. Lentinus spp. Morchella spp., and Pleurotus spp. The pesticide composition may be produced by culturing the fungus on a medium containing vegetable oil and a surfactant. Alternatively a filtrate from a culture of the fungus is added to the medium containing vegetable oil and a surfactant, and mixed until pesticidal activity develops.

An improved substrate for mushrooms that is essentially cellulose-free comprising a major portion of grain and minor portions of nutritional supplements. The grain is partially sterilized by boiling in order to kill bacteria, cooled in order to induce germination of the heat resistant spores, and steam sterilized before the germinated spores have matured sufficiently to create new spores. The substate can be used to grow fungi, including mushrooms, especially shiitake.
