Configurable electronic devices contain identifying information in a dual-ported memory. A plurality of un-configured units are assembled into a set. Using identifying information, a provisioning server matches each particular unit to configuration settings needed to appropriately configure that device for use by a specific end user. The configuration settings and/or data may be transmitted to the devices via their embedded RFID systems and stored in their dual-ported memory (via the first memory port). The electronic devices may comprise processor-based systems and, upon system initialization, the configuration data can be read from the memory via a second port thereof and used to configure the device for use by the user. In this way, devices may be configured as a set destined for a particular end user immediately prior to shipment and/or deployment and it is not necessary to separately track customized units prior to assembling them into a set.

System and method for in-box electronic device provisioning

A toy barber shop assembly allows a user to imitate cutting and styling hair within the setting of a simulated barber shop environment. The assembly includes a playhouse having a top wall, a bottom wall and a perimeter wall coupled to and extending between the top wall and the bottom wall. Each of the top wall, the bottom wall and the perimeter wall define an interior of the playhouse. A local area wireless communications network includes an MCU which generally operates to manage the placement of audio and other information into frames that are transmitted to a base station which serves to convert the frames from one signal format to another signal format and broadcast the frames over a wireless medium to associated mobile communications devices. The wireless communications system operates in a way that permits the broadcasting of new software files from the base stations to associated mobile communications devices in a parallel manner without having a detrimental affect on the operation of the communications system. The MCU operates to place download alert information and download payload information into the frames in such a format and into certain positions in the frame that this information can be recognized and stored by the mobile phones which use it to update their current software.

Method and apparatus for broadcasting software update information to mobile phones over a wireless communications network

A method and system for verifying that each remote cell unit in a cellular phone system is operational. The system and method in accordance with the present invention use the receiver equipment of each cell unit to listen to or monitor transmissions by other cell units. Each cell unit is independently placed in a listen verification mode in which it measures communication quality of other cell units that it can hear. The selected cell unit reports the communication quality results to a master control unit. The master control unit stores the result information to allow a comparison of communication quality over time. If communication quality has degraded over time by a significant amount, the master control unit signals an alarm. In another aspect of the present invention, the listen verification mode can be used during installation of the cellular system to verify performance of the system and adjust the system for optimal performance.

Listen verification method and system for cellular phones

A method, system, and apparatus for communication and handoff in a cellular phone system in which candidate cell units which can support communication with a mobile phone are identified. Neighbor cell units which have recently supported communication with the mobile phone are also identified. Handoff threshold values for each candidate cell are determined based on the existing communication quality and whether the candidate cell is also a neighbor cell such that the handoff threshold is higher when the candidate cell is a neighbor cell. A decision to handoff is made when the improvement offered by candidate cell is greater than the handoff threshold.
