A patient support apparatus for supporting a patient comprising a support frame and a support deck coupled to the support frame. The support deck has a deck section arranged to articulate relative to said support frame between a first position and a second position. An actuator is interposed in force-translating relation between the support frame and the deck section to articulate the deck section. The actuator comprises a biasing device configured to store mechanical energy and having an interface. The actuator further comprises a torque multiplier coupled to the deck section and engaged with the interface to translate mechanical energy stored in the biasing device into force acting on the deck section to urge the deck section toward the first position.

A patient transport apparatus including a base, an intermediate frame, a support deck with a fowler section, and a deck extension assembly with a head deck section, a brace extending between a mount end and a coupling end, and a pivot coupling attached to the coupling end and supporting the head deck section. A mount operatively attached to the fowler section defines a receiver slidably supporting the brace adjacent to the mount end for movement along a brace axis. A retainer interposed between the mount and the brace selectively retains the brace in one of a plurality of extension positions and is operable between: a retained configuration to prevent movement, and a released configuration to permit movement of the brace between the extension positions. Operation changes from the retained configuration to the released configuration in response to force applied to the head deck section along the brace axis.

A patient support apparatus includes a base, a frame supported relative to the base to support a mattress for supporting a patient thereon, and a lift assembly for raising or lowering the frame relative to the base. The lift assembly includes a pair of lifting legs, a pair of crank arms, and an actuator. The actuator has a fixed end mounted relative to the lifting legs and an extendible end and supports a pin connection between the extendible end and the fixed end. The pin connection being movable with the extendible end and is pivotally coupled to the pair of crank arms, with the pair of crank arms coupled at upper ends thereof to the lifting legs and at lower ends thereof to the base.

A patient support apparatus comprising a base, an intermediate frame arranged for movement relative to the base, a support deck disposed on the intermediate frame to provide support for a patient, and a telescoping assembly operatively attached to the intermediate frame. The telescoping assembly comprises a support movable between a collapsed position and an extended position, a lock operable to releasably hold the support in the extended position, and an accessory manually movable by a user relative to the support between a stowed position and a use position. The accessory comprises a deactivator operable to deactivate the lock remotely from the user in response to the user manually moving the accessory relative to the support toward the stowed position thereby enabling movement of the support from the extended position to the collapsed position.

The body and the extendible member define a stroke length extending along a stroke axis, with the actuator mounted in the lifting assembly between two levers.

A locking device releasably holds the telescoping support in the extended position. The accessory is manually movable by a user between a stowed position and a use position. The accessory comprises a deactivator portion operable to deactivate the locking device remotely in response to the user manually moving the accessory relative to the telescoping support toward the stowed position.
