A security system is disclosed which utilizes plural remote terminals for controlling access at plural locations throughout a secured area or building. Each of these remote terminals is capable of independent functioning, and includes a memory for storing plural independent identification numbers which define the personnel who will be granted access. These numbers stored in the terminal memories may be different from terminal to terminal, or may be uniform throughout the system, and may be the same as a list stored at a central processing location. Thus, access may be limited to the same group of individuals regardless of whether it is provided by a central memory list or a remote memory list. The remote memories provide total memory flexibility, so that the deletion of identification numbers from the list does not reduce the memory size. The memory, in addition to identification numbers, stores data defining real time access limitations for each of the individuals who will be granted access, so that flexibility in time of day access control is provided on a programmable basis.

Self-contained programmable terminal for security systems

A line monitoring system is disclosed which provides particular advantages to security systems having remote terminals. This system provides both a reduction in the required power for the line monitoring task and also increases the level of line security by generating a calculated response at the remote terminal, which calculated response could not be accidentally produced by a faulty remote unit. Futhermore, the calculated response at the remote unit greatly reduces the likelihood of clandestine entry at the remote site.

System for monitoring integrity of communication lines in security

A security system in which personnel are permitted access at certain locations on the basis of data magnetically encoded on a card inserted into the system by the personnel. Access is also limited on the basis of keyboard data entered at the remote location by personnel wishing access. The keyboard data required for entry is a permutation and combination of the data on the employee's card, the particular combination and permutation required at each remote location being independently programmable by switches accessible on the inside of the remote security system.

Programmable keyboard sequencing for a security system

A card or badge is used for controlling access to facilities or facility areas which include remote card readers which are interconnected with a central card data processor. When access is requested at a remote location, a user inserts his card or badge into the remote terminal and the remote terminal sends data identifying the person to the central processor which, in turn, sends a command to the remote terminal to grant or deny access. When a card or badge is inserted into the system and no response is received within a predetermined time period, the remote terminal, on the assumption that communication line failure has occurred between the remote terminal and the central processor, reads a set of data from the user's card or badge to grant or deny facility access to the user on a secondary selection basis.
