A system may include a vehicle. The vehicle may include an array of haptic devices. The system may further include at least one processor configured to: determine a location of an object or occurrence relative to the user; based at least on the location of the object or occurrence relative to the user, select at least one haptic device of the array of haptic devices to be driven and function as a directional haptic alert to the user, wherein the directional haptic alert is indicative of a direction from the user toward the object or occurrence; and output at least one command to cause a driving of the selected at least one haptic device, wherein the driving of the selected at least one haptic device is perceivable by the user as the directional haptic alert.

A system and method for an ownship aircraft auto transition from an assigned spacing application to a visual separation application provides the ability to intuitively pre-configure for and execute an automatic transition from an assigned spacing traffic application managing an assigned interval spacing to a traffic application managing visual separation from an assigned target aircraft. This feature enables integration between separate traffic applications, creating new capabilities while reducing the workload on the pilot during a particularly busy phase of flight.

A system for flight and task management timeline display is disclosed. In embodiments, the timeline display is positioned on an edge of a primary flight display (PFD) or other avionics display, divided lengthwise into time (e.g., absolute time) and space (e.g., relative time and distance) scales. The timeline display expands situational awareness into the temporal dimension by positioning waypoints in the flight path based on the relative time to passage or flyover. The time scale corresponds to an adjustable time range and automatically scrolls lengthwise according to the current time, but can be manually zoomed or scrolled in past and future directions as well. Based on updates from the flight management system (FMS), the space scale displays relative time-distanced events, notifications for reminders and tasks, and waypoints positioned according to the likely times they will be encountered (or, in the case of reminders and tasks, must be fulfilled).

A touch screen controller identifies a multi-touch gesture associated with a display feature such as scale or orientation. The touch screen controller applies a discrete value change to the display feature from an ordered set of discrete values. The number of points of contact in the multi-touch gesture may be interpreted by the touch screen controller as step changes in the ordered set of discrete values when applying the value change to the display feature.

The navigation chart information presenting system may include a display system comprised of one or more display units receiving image data set representative of an image of navigation chart information from an image generator (IG). The navigation chart data could be representative of a plurality of sections shown in a first visual format of a navigation chart, where each section of the plurality of sections is comprised of a plurality of feature names and feature information associated with one of the plurality of feature names. An enhanced flight display system for an aircraft, including primary display controls, a flight display, and processing elements. The flight display includes a touchscreen input device being partitioned into a plurality of fixed touch regions that are responsive to touch so as to provide a secondary capability for performing defined flight display functions. The processing elements are operatively associated with the primary display controls and the flight display for implementing the defined flight display functions in response to utilization of the primary display controls or the touch of one of the touch regions, wherein operation of the fixed touch regions is configured to be independent of the primary display controls. This system provides an intuitive, aircraft optimized touchscreen interface to an aircraft flight display with no or minimal display design changes.

A system for providing taxi navigation information to a pilot of an aircraft is comprised of a navigation system; a taxi navigation module consisting of, in part, a processor and database; and an indicating system consisting of, in part, a tactical display unit system (e.g., a primary flight director ('PFD'), and head-up display ('HUD') of an aircraft. A navigation system may provide aircraft position data of the aircraft while it is on the ground. A processor receives the aircraft position data, retrieves taxi navigation symbology based upon the aircraft position data from a taxi navigation database, and provides this data to the indicating system. The indicating system generates the display of taxi navigation information on a display unit which, in turn, provides the pilot with an egocentric view of airport signage using colored aviation signage symbology.
