A synchronized laser system for illuminating a sample with first and second laser light pulses, said system comprising: a trigger, said trigger being operative to issue first and second trigger signals, said first and second trigger signals being emitted at an adjustable frequency with a predetermined delay therebetween; a first tunable mode-locked laser operative for emitting said first laser light pulses in response to receiving a train of said first trigger signals, a first wavelength of said first laser light pulses being dependent on said adjustable frequency in accordance with a first wavelength-frequency relationship; a second tunable mode-locked laser operative for emitting said second laser light pulses in response to receiving a train of said second trigger signals, a second wavelength of said second laser light pulses being dependent on said adjustable frequency in accordance with a second wavelength-frequency relationship; wherein said predetermined delay is such that said first and second laser light pulses are emitted so as to arrive substantially simultaneously in said sample; and said first and second wavelength-frequency relationships are selected to result in a predetermined relationship between said first and second wavelengths at each frequency.

Synchronized tunable mode-locked lasers

The fiber optic assembly can include two fiber optic breadboards hinged to one another along a coinciding hinge axis. Each one of the fiber optic breadboards can have a flat body having two faces and lateral edges, one of which running alongside the hinge axis, and can have a tessellation of tray locations each having a tray attachment. The fiber optic assembly can also include a plurality of fiber optic trays each having a body having a base attachable to at least one of said tray attachments, the body having a size and shape associated to one of a single one of said tray locations and a plurality of adjacent ones of said tray locations on one of said at least one fiber optic breadboards, and having a structure by which an optical fiber having a critical radius of curvature can be confined within at least one optical fiber path.

The fiber optic hinge can mechanically connect a first fiber optic tray and a second fiber optic tray of a fiber optic device, while providing an optical fiber path extending continuously through the first and second hinge members.

A spectrometer () including a triggering element () for generating a series of trigger signals, a first laser () for emitting toward a sample () a first laser light pulse () having a first wavelength in response to receiving each of the trigger signals, the first laser () being wavelength tunable so that the first wavelength is selectively variable; a second laser () for emitting toward the sample a second laser light pulse () having a second wavelength in response to receiving each of the trigger signals from the series of trigger signals; a dithering element () for selectively retarding transmission of the trigger signals to at least one of the first and second lasers such that the first and second laser light pulses () are received at the sample substantially non-simultaneously; a delaying element () for retarding transmission of the trigger signals to at least one of the first and second lasers in a manner such that the first and second laser light pulses () are received at the sample substantially simultaneously when the dithering element () is inactive state.
