To provide for automatic adjustment of the light field of an operating room light in accordance with manual positioning of the light, an electrical servo control loop positions the respective lamps and/or deflection mirrors of circularly placed light sources (2) in the housing (1) to iluminate a given field in a given plane. The distance of the lamp from the given field is determined by an ultrasonic distance sensor (5; 5a, 5b, 5c) to provide one input to the servo loop, for comparison of the positioning of the light source to illuminate said field. If the distance of the illuminated field increases, the angular position of the light sources is automatically adjusted to provide the field at the increased distance. If the distance decreases, however, no adjustment is carried out unless an operator touches an operating handle. This is transformed into a manual readjustment signal which releases the servo system to then readjust the position of the light sources. A switch (33) is located in the control loop to interrupt the control loop and permit adjustment only upon an increase in distance. Thus, erroneous sensing of a smaller distance, for example given by the hands of a surgeon, surgical instrument, or the surgeon's head, will not affect repositioning of the lamp and the light sources therein.

Auto-adjustable operating room light

A laser device includes a multipass resonator which has, in the beam path between two resonator end mirrors, at least two opposite beam folding mirrors with confronting mirror surfaces. At least one of the beam folding mirrors is limited in its width and at least one has a beam discharge area. To produce a low-order laser mode, preferably a 00 mode, the mirror surface of at least one beam folding mirror has its reflectivity dimishished in the region outside of the desired modes of radiation.

To permit adjustment and ready removal of a halogen lamp from an operating room light so that the halogen bulb (3) can be positioned with respect to a dome-shaped reflector (1) to control the light distribution therefrom while being readily removable for bulb replacement and cleaning, a pivot arm (5) is hinged at a circumferential point to the outer circumference of the reflector (1) and held in horizontally extended position across the reflector by a latch (16, 20; 18, 19, 19'; 21, 27). The other end of the latch is in engagement with a vertically positionable adjustment sleeve or rod (7) to adjust the position of the latch arm, and hence of the lamp bulb (3) with respect to the apex of the reflector (1) by pivoting of the pivot arm (5) about its pivot point (6) adjacent the circumference of the reflector. A plurality of such lamps may be combined in a common housing (H), and adjustment can be carried out conjointly, for example by a drive (11, 23) common to all the adjustment elements.
