An incineration kiln of the slagging mode, which has an outer shell and a protective layer inside the shell with quantum failure identifiers. The quantum failure identifiers recognizes one or more stages of increasing degree of failure of the protective layer, so that an operator may be warned and take suitable measures to protect further deterioration of the protective layer and restore the same.

Incineration kiln devices and methods of protecting the same

Methods and devices for controlling rotary incineration kilns by determining and controlling the viscosity of slag which is formed in such kilns. These methods and devices are based on measuring one or more properties or parameters of drippings of the slag falling from the ceiling of the kiln, as the kiln rotates. The parameters are size of drippings, shape of drippings, aspect ratio of drippings, and number of drippings.

Slag viscosity detection through image analysis of dripping slag within

A method and apparatus for controlling the viscosity of slag contained in a rotary incinerating kiln by detecting the position at which the slag exits the outlet of the kiln, thereby determining changes in the viscosity of the slag. If the viscosity deviates from a predetermined range of values, appropriate additives are supplied to the slag for bringing the viscosity back to within the range of the predetermined values. There is also disclosed a method and apparatus for measuring viscosity as 'angular' viscosity.

Kiln control for incinerating waste

A recycle conduit insulation assembly for use with a helical recycle conduit of a rotary reactor of the type having a rotating, horizontally-oriented, cylindrical chamber for burning materials therein and a quantity of particulate, inorganic material within the chamber for conveying heat energy to material to be burned. The insulation assembly includes a plurality of shell elements, each comprising a cylinder enclosing a portion of the conduit and being arranged in overlapping relation, a plurality of mounting rings, each attached to and extending radially from the conduit and having a T-shape in section for supporting the shell elements at ends thereof, and a pumpable refractory mixture substantially filling the insulating space between the shell elements and conduit. Preferably, the shell elements are attached to the mounting rings only at one end of each shell element and have unattached ends which overlap the next adjacent shell element to form a continuous covering which can contract or expand longitudinally in response to thermal expansion and contraction of the associated conduit. The mounting rings are segmented and include slots which permit expansion and contraction from the underlying conduit without destruction of the mounting ring.

Recycle conduit insulation assembly

A rotary reactor of the type having a cylindrical, horizontally-oriented chamber lined with a refractory for burning materials therein and a plurality of trough-like lifters, extending along the interior surface of the chamber, for lifting and dumping sand in the chamber as the chamber rotates, a long-wearing lifter assemble which minimizes intrusion of contaminants between the lifter and the refractory. The lifter assembly comprises a bolt attaching the lifter to the chamber, a split support cylinder recessed into the refractory lining and coaxial with the bolt, a sleeve member, coaxial with the support cylinder, extend through the chamber and receiving the bolt, an anchor plate receiving the bolt and sleeve member therethrough and having an outer periphery contiguous with an inner periphery of the sleeve member, a mounting plate supported on the support cylinder and attached to the anchor plate supported on the support cylinder and attached to the anchor plate, a retainer plate attached to an inner surface of the lifter and receiving the bolt therethrough so that the bolt cams against the retainer plate, and a cap covering and protecting the bolt. In one embodiment, the assembly includes slots formed in the lifter and retainer plate to allow movement of the lifter relative to the bolt resulting from thermal expansion. A cam plate slidably mounted within the slots receives the bolt and a slide plate covers the slots and cam plates to prevent fouling of the slots.
