A differential transmission transition interface is disclosed which can include first and a second buried conducting tracks providing respectively first and second differential couplings between a differential RF transmission output and a waveguide; the first buried conducting track extending over an opening of the waveguide to provide a first RF coupling element; and the second buried conducting track extending over the opening to provide a second RF coupling element. At least a portion of the first RF coupling element extends over the waveguide opening in a first angular direction; and at least a portion of the second RF coupling element extends over the waveguide opening in a second angular direction that is opposed to the first angular direction.

A planar Vivaldi antenna array, and method of forming such an array, the array comprising: a plurality of slots at an end of the antenna array, the slots extending through the whole thickness of the planar structure of the antenna array; and a plurality of grooves extending from the slots; wherein: the grooves do not extend through the whole thickness of the planar structure of the antenna array; and the cross-sectional shape of the grooves is complementary to the cross-sectional shape of the slots.

An apparatus and method are provided for applying a fixed non-linear profile of power (amplitude) and delay to signals across the aperture of an array antenna having multiple antenna elements where multiple beams are formed to span the field of view of the antenna. Using such fixed profiles in combination enables a substantially constant beam width to be maintained across a wide range of operational frequencies, e.g. 6-18 GHz, ensuring that the points of overlap for adjacent beams does not drop below a certain level, e.g. &#x2212;3dB, and hence maintaining a substantially uniform coverage across the field of view of the antenna at all frequencies in the range.

An improved antenna array () comprises a set of array elements (-) electromagnetically coupled to a transmission line. The transmission line comprises a live conductor () and a return conductor, and the live conductor () is terminated by a direct connection to the return conductor. An input signal fed to the live conductor () is radiated by the array elements (-) and the antenna array () is arranged such that any portion of the input signal reaching the termination is reflected at the termination so as to form a reflected signal that superimposes with the input signal to produce a predetermined farfield radiation pattern.

Improvements relating to antenna arrays

A deployable lens is provided for an antenna. The lens comprises an array of metallic lens elements formed on a plurality of planar sections of a dielectric substrate, each lens element comprising a first end-fire element directed towards a feed side of the lens, a second end-fire element directed towards a non-feed side of the lens and a section of transmission line for coupling signals between the first and second end-fire elements. The section of transmission line, preferably in the form of a slot-line transmission line, is integrated with the end-fire elements and is of a length determined according to the position of the lens element within the aperture of the lens as deployed. An antenna is also provided comprising a deployable lens according to the present invention.
