A motor vehicle starter is controlled by a control device which cuts off the starter by measuring the power supply voltage of the starter and interrupting the power supply when that voltage reaches a threshold value. The threshold value is a function of the value of the power supply voltage measured at the inception of the starting operation.

A starter for a motor vehicle engine is equipped with a device for cutting off the operation of the starter as soon as the engine is running by itself. The device detects the voltage or current waves in the power supply to the starter, and stops the starter when these waves disappear. At each new wave in the power supply signal, a monitoring period is generated, having a duration which decreases as the frequency of the waves increases, the starter being stopped when no new wave is detected in the last monitoring period.

A motor vehicle starter system includes a contactor comprising an annular cylindrical armature and a winding which actuates a movable core in axial displacement, so that the latter acts on a control rod extending through the centre of a fixed core in the form of a disc. The control rod controls axial displacements of a movable contact, and the contactor further includes a hood having the general form of a cylindrical pot, with a skirt portion which defines a housing. The movable contact is arranged within this housing. The starter system also includes an electronic control system for the contactor, comprising a support member such as a printed circuit board, and circuit components carried by the support member. The electronic control circuit is arranged inside the contactor.

A motor vehicle starter is of the type comprising an electromagnetic contactor, the winding of which is connected to the positive pole of the battery of the vehicle through an auxiliary control relay, the movable contact of which is arranged to connect electrically together two contact pads which are themselves connected, respectively, to the input terminal of the contactor winding and to the positive contactor terminal, and of the type in which the contactor includes at one of its axial ends a closure hood of insulating material in the general form of a cylindrical pot, with the two terminals of the contactor being disposed in the base of the hood. The auxiliary control relay is disposed inside a housing defined by the contactor hood.
