In the field of mixing rubber mixtures, a rotor (), for use in an internal mixer having a mixing vessel in which the rotor rotates, includes one or more blades (), each blade having a tip () with a profile having a predefined curvature and an anti-wear device detachably fixed to the tip () of at least one blade. The anti-wear device includes a plate () with a profile defined by a lower surface () with a curvature complementary to that of the tip () and an upper surface () with a curvature complementary to that of a wall of the vessel to define, between them, a zone of minimum distance that allows a passage of the mixture between the plate () and the wall of the vessel. One or more fastening systems () are fitted and tightened with respect to the plate () so as to engage the rotor ().

A mixing and extrusion machine () for the manufacture of rubber mixtures includes a mixer with a converging conical twin-screw () with a fixed frame () that supports sleeves (). Two screws (), being mounted at an angle, are mounted in the mixer () in such a way as to move in translational movement between an opening () arranged upstream and an outlet () arranged downstream of the sleeves. The screws are mounted in the sleeves with removable doors including sliding shutters () installed relative to the outlet (). A process for manufacturing a continuous strip of self-sealing product having very low hardness, being very elastic and highly tacky, the strip being intended for feeding a converting machine, during which a thermoplastic protective film is deposited on the surface of the strip. The process includes a step during which a strip of self-sealing product P is extruded to a first cross section (S) at the outlet of the extrusion die (). The strip is surrounded over its entire perimeter using a thermoplastic film () by welding the film to itself, after having deposited the film () around the strip. The strip is calendered in order to bring it down to a second cross section (S), smaller in area than the first cross section.

A viscoelastic material is extruded by kneading-and-conveying screws of different respective diameters positioned coaxially and telescopingly. A flight trough of a larger-diameter screw has radial orifices allowing a first space swept by the flight of the larger-diameter screw to communicate with a second space swept by a flight of a smaller-diameter screw. A fixed cylindrical tube arranged coaxially with the screws is disposed radially between the first and second spaces within the region in which the screws telescope. The tube has radial apertures therethrough to conduct material from the orifices to the second space. The first space is closed off at an axial end thereof by a wall where foreign substances accumulate that do not pass through the orifices. A passage through the wall can be opened to remove the accumulated substances without interrupting the extrusion operation.
