A heater for heating packaged die for burn-in and heat testing is described. The heater may be a ceramic-type heater with a metal filament. The heater may be incorporated into the integrated circuit package as an additional ceramic layer of the package, or may be an external heater placed in contact with the package to heat the die. Many different types of integrated circuit packages may be accommodated. The method provides increased energy efficiency for heating the die while reducing temperature stresses on testing equipment. The method allows the use of multiple heaters to heat die to different temperatures. Faulty die may be heated to weaken die attach material to facilitate removal of the die. The heater filament or a separate temperature thermistor located in the package may be used to accurately measure die temperature.

Packaged die heater

A voting scheme for analog signals is described. An analog block is replicated to provide three analog blocks that are designed to have substantially the same analog output based on receiving substantially the same input. Voting is used to compare the analog outputs from the three analog blocks. In one example, the analog output from one of the three analog blocks having a middle value between the values of the other two analog outputs is provided as an output of the voter circuit. In another example, if the original analog block provides the analog output having the middle value, the output of the original analog block is provided as an output of the voter circuit. Otherwise, an output of another analog block is provided as an output of the voter circuit. In another example, the analog voter circuit determines which of the three analog outputs have been impacted by a transient event based on a non-zero output of transconductor circuits. These analog voting schemes may be incorporated into any circuit design in which an analog signal may be susceptible to SEE.

Miniature magnetometer apparatus for use with external equipment in determining a position and orientation of a device located within a magnetic field includes an elongated flexible circuit for connection to external equipment, a substrate at the device with a portion of the flexible circuit secured thereto, and a planar sensor mounted on the flexible circuit at the substrate and connected to the flexible circuit.

A data communication system having improved error correction and detection capabilities includes an encoder which converts each input word containing three binary message bits to an eight-bit binary code vector which contains exactly four '1's' and four '0's', and thus has a fixed 'weight' of 4. In addition, the same symbol (either a '1' or '0') is consecutively repeated in the code vector no more than two times. The code vector is transmitted from a transmitter to a receiver, and the eight-bit received vector is decoded by a decoder to produce an output word containing three message bits. The decoder detects errors in received vectors by checking the weight of the received vector, by checking syndrome based upon predetermined combinations of bits of the received vector, and by performing a parity check on two selected bits of the received vector which should be unequal. Based upon the weight, syndrome and parity checks, the decoder determines the presence of all single and double errors and detects the presence of most high multiple errors in the received vector. In some embodiments, the decoder also corrects the single errors which have been detected, so that the output word can be produced accurately despite the occurrence of single errors in the received vector.
