A diaphragm includes a vibratory membrane and at least one nickel titanium memory metal member having a shape that can be mechanically adjusted with a heating signal. The mechanical adjustment of the at least one nickel titanium memory metal member tunes the frequency response of the vibratory membrane in the diaphragm. The at least one nickel titanium memory metal member can be a sheet providing a vibratory membrane, or sheet sections or wire made of nickel titanium memory metal bonded to a vibratory membrane.

A wind noise and vibration noise reducing microphone arrangement is formed in a bullet-shaped housing (12) having a rounded front portion (13) and a flat rear portion (15). The rear portion is substantially perpendicular to the side portions (14) and contains a transducer (10) facing in the opposite direction from the forward portion. The transducer is mounted to the housing with an elastomeric member (25) that also serves as a seal between the transducer and the housing. The elastomeric member also reduces vibrations transmitted to the microphone. A mounting means (30) is attached to the housing. The mounting means has a vibration isolation member (32) to reduce vibrations transmitted to the housing. The mounting means can be an aerodynamic pedestal attached to the housing, with an elastomeric member attached to the pedestal to reduce vibrations. The pedestal is attached to a vehicle such as a bicycle (6), motorcycle, glider, or boat, and the elastomeric member reduces the vibration transmitted from the vehicle to the housing. The microphone arrangement is connected to a radio transmitter (4) mounted on the bicycle, and transmits the rider's voice to another remote radio receiver.

Wind noise and vibration noise reducing microphone

An apparatus for mounting a noise cancelling microphone (34) within a communication device comprises a housing having a front portion (36), a back portion and side portions (40). The front portion (36) and one of the side portions (40) have apertures (38 and 40). Within the housing lies a receptacle (32 or 50 or 100) for retaining a microphone or transducer (34). The receptacle is arranged and constructed to form a chamber (32) between the apertures (38 and 40) in the front portion (36) and the side portion (40) of the housing.

Noise cancelling microphone and boot mounting arrangement

This microphone includes a microphone element, speaker and antenna all internal to the microphone housing. These components are carried by a chassis that is fastened to the microphone body at its lower end which also provides the effective attachment point for the microphone cable. The speaker is mounted in the chassis at an angle having its face slight upwardly incline to project sound towards the top of the microphone. An antenna element includes walls on either side of the speaker for reflecting sound upwardly. The antenna element has apertures in its top portion to allow for the passage of sound therethrough. The microphone element is also in a position for picking up sound through the top of the microphone.
