The approach of the present invention is called optical word recognition (OWR). The present invention advantageously uses techniques to search for arbitrary textual information contained in imaged documents. The result is a significant advance in high-speed search for textual information within imaged documents. The optical apparatus includes a generating unit for synthetically generating textual patterns as signal templates. The optical apparatus has a compensating unit for compensating, if necessary, for visual differences between the synthetically generated textual patterns and images being compared against the synthetically generated images. The optical apparatus has a comparing unit for comparing compensated images against images in a database.

Image page search for arbitrary textual information

Optical correlation (OC) technology, previously used with great success to detect tanks and other weaponry in aerial imagery, is used in the present invention with imaged pages which are stored as image templates. An image template of a search word, a classification, an agency seal or a particular individual's signature becomes the basis of a user query. The target to be detected can be text as image (a search word, a classification) or image as image (an agency seal, a signature). The result is a faster (not one or two, but hundreds of times faster), flexible method of automatically identifying documents that match a target image template.

Imaged document optical correlation and conversion system

A system and method for controlling and monitoring remote distributed processing systems from one or more control processing systems by downloading agent-application programs from the control processing systems to remote control middleware modules on the distributed processing systems, where the control processing systems have a library of available agent-application(s). The agent-application(s) are compiled by or at the direction of the remote control middleware and executed within operational parameters determined by the control processing systems.

A method and apparatus for verifying, analyzing and optimizing a distributed simulation conducted on one or more simulation components from one or more control computers where the present invention may be overlaid onto a distributed simulation as may be conducted by technologies now known for conducting such simulations, where each simulation component has simulator middleware which is operatively connected to a control computer and where the control computer has agent-applications which it may send to the simulator middleware of one or more selected simulation components to perform a task such as gathering data about a simulation entity and return that data to the control computer for subsequent analysis such as calculating average characteristics or effectiveness of simulation components and having tools for optimizing the distributed simulation by modifying or creating agent-applications to send to selected simulators which change the parameters of the distributed simulation and re-run the distributed simulations.
