A sequencing spray arm assembly includes a plurality fluid spray arms rotatably mounted on respective radially spaced carrier arms. The rotating fluid spray arms are in fluid communication with a fluid distribution manifold and adapted to distribute washing fluid throughout a washing chamber of the appliance. A sequencing diverter valve system enables delivery of washing fluid from the fluid distribution manifold to one or more of the plurality of rotating fluid spray arms. A fluid responsive rotating drive arm drives the rotation of a sequencing disk in the valve system between discrete positions and enables delivery of fluid to one or more of the plurality of rotating fluid spray arms in a sequential manner such that, for each discrete position, less than the total number of spray arms are supplied with washing fluid at a time.

A sequencing diverter valve system in a washing appliance includes a fluid distribution manifold having a fluid inlet for receiving washing fluid and a plurality of fluid outlets. A fluid responsive rotating drive arm is connected to a drive reduction mechanism which, in turn, is operatively connected to a rotating sequencing valve for shifting the valve through a plurality of discrete positions at a rate of rotation less than the rate of rotation of the drive arm. As it rotates, the sequencing valve sequentially directs the washing fluid to a respective one or more of the plurality of fluid outlets.

A fuel injection nozzle controls the flow of pressurized fluid through a nozzle opening. The fuel pump includes a fuel valve under the control of an electronic engine control module to effect sequential ON/OFF cycles for the fuel valve to establish a pilot fuel delivery pulse through the nozzle followed by a full fuel delivery injection pulse, a damping flow passage in the nozzle, and a flow damping pin in the opening through which fuel flows as the needle valve displaces fuel, the damping pin being biased toward an injection nozzle closed position by a needle valve spring whereby a distinct pilot pulse of fuel is delivered through the nozzle in advance of delivery of a full injection pulse, the valve spring being in a spring chamber that is pressurized to effect a rapid needle valve closure at the end of the fuel delivery pulse.
