Various embodiments of the present disclosure can include a high-density electrode catheter. In some embodiments, the high-density electrode catheter can include a catheter shaft including a proximal end and a distal end, the catheter shaft defining a catheter shaft longitudinal axis. In some embodiments, the high-density electrode catheter can include a shaft magnetic position sensor disposed along a distal portion of the catheter shaft. In some embodiments, the high-density electrode catheter can include a flexible tip portion located adjacent to the distal end of the catheter shaft, wherein the flexible tip portion includes a flexible framework. In some embodiments, the high-density electrode catheter can include a plurality of electrodes disposed on the flexible framework. In some embodiments, the high-density electrode catheter can include a tip magnetic position sensor disposed on a portion of the flexible framework.

High-density electrode catheters with magnetic position tracking

A position sensor used in medical devices for use with medical positioning systems. The position sensor includes a core () having a body and one or more projections () extending from the body, wherein the core comprises a high-permeability material. The position sensor further includes a coil () surrounding the body, wherein the coil is configured to generate a voltage when subject to a magnetic field. The one or more projections extending from the body of the core are configured to concentrate the magnetic field into the coil and increase the voltage. Thus, various core designs are described which have projections which may increase the electrical and/or mechanical integrity of the position sensor and/or which may also induce magnetic flux flow within the position sensor thereby increasing the signals generated by the position sensor.

A steerable sheath includes an inner liner extending from a proximal end to a distal end of the steerable sheath. The inner liner includes a non-deflectable portion and a deflectable portion. The steerable sheath includes a first pull wire positioned along a first helical path around the circumference of the inner liner from a proximal end to a distal end of the non-deflectable portion of the inner liner and along a first straight path from a proximal end of the deflectable portion to a distal end of the deflectable portion. The steerable sheath includes a second pull wire positioned along a second helical path around the circumference of the inner liner from the proximal end to the distal end of the non-deflectable portion and along a second straight path from the proximal end of the deflectable portion to the distal end of the deflectable portion.

Medical devices with radiopaque three dimensional filtration matrices provide for improved visualization of the device within a vessel. In some embodiments, the three dimensional filtration matrix comprises fibers, such as surface capillary fibers. Visualization of the three dimensional filtration matrix provides for an evaluation of the proper deployment of the three dimensional filtration matrix. Radiopaque surface capillary fibers can be advantageously incorporated into other medical devices. Radiopaque surface capillary fibers can be formed by extrusion of a radiopaque polymer or polymer composite.

A thermal therapy catheter for preferentially treating tissue adjacent to a body lumen includes a catheter shaft that is insertable into the body lumen. An energy-emitting element is carried by the catheter shaft, and is operable to radiate a generally symmetrical energy pattern. The catheter shaft includes a plurality of cooling lumens around the energy-emitting element, configured for circulation of a fluid therethrough. An attenuating element is located in at least one of the plurality of cooling lumens and is arranged to modify the generally symmetrical energy pattern radiated by the energy-emitting element to deliver an asymmetrical energy pattern to the tissue adjacent to the body lumen.

A thermal therapy catheter includes a catheter shaft having an outer surface that is insertable into the body lumen. The catheter shaft carries an energy-emitting element. A multi-lobe balloon is positioned around the outer surface of the catheter shaft adjacent to the energy-emitting element, with opposing ends of the multi-lobe balloon being sealingly connected to the catheter shaft to form a chamber between the multi-lobe balloon and the outer surface of the catheter shaft. Fluid is circulated between the outer surface of the catheter shaft and the multi-lobe balloon in a defined fluid flow path to firmly contact the wall of the body lumen and thereby cool the body lumen tissue while thermally treating targeted tissue at a depth from the body lumen wall.

Thermal therapy catheter

A thermal therapy catheter includes a catheter shaft having an outer surface that is insertable into the body lumen. The catheter shaft carries an energy-emitting element. A multi-lobe balloon is positioned around the outer surface of the catheter shaft adjacent to the energy-emitting element, with opposing ends of the multi-lobe balloon being sealingly connected to the catheter shaft to form a chamber between the multi-lobe balloon and the outer surface of the catheter shaft. A fluid is circulated between the outer surface of the catheter shaft and the multi-lobe balloon in a defined fluid flow path to firmly contact the wall of the body lumen and thereby conductively cool the body lumen tissue while thermally treating targeted tissue at a depth from the body lumen wall.

A catheter incorporating an insert molded tip and an improved method of manufacture that is simple, efficient, and significantly reduces current scrap rates for soft tip attachment to catheters. One catheter shaft embodiment includes a counterbored distal portion having anchor holes through the wall of the catheter body in this distal portion. In another embodiment, the catheter shaft has a reduced diameter portion including anchor holes. In yet another embodiment the catheter shaft has external longitudinal and external grooves. The tip is injection molded onto the body with tip material filling the counterbore, reduced diameter portion, anchor holes, and grooves to form integral anchors to secure the tip.
