Methods and apparatus for monitoring solenoid valve health are disclosed. A switchbox includes a state manager, a position detector, and a notification generator. The state manager changes an activation state of a solenoid valve between a first state and a second state in response to an initiation signal of a solenoid valve test. The position detector determines, based on position data obtained at the switchbox from an integrated position sensor of the solenoid valve, whether a core of the solenoid valve has moved by at least a threshold change in position within a predetermined time period following the change of the activation state of the solenoid valve. The notification generator generates a notification in response to the position detector determining that the core did not move by at least the threshold change in position within the predetermined time period. The notification indicates that the solenoid valve failed the solenoid valve test.

Methods and apparatus for monitoring solenoid valve health

A valve signature diagnosis and leak testing device includes a spool valve operatively connected to a pilot valve, the pilot valve being configured to position the spool valve to one of an open position and a closed position. A blocker valve is fluidly connected to a control fluid outlet of the spool valve. An electrical module is operatively connected to the pilot valve, a supply of control fluid, and the blocker valve, the electrical module being capable of sending pulsed electrical signals to the pilot valve and the blocker valve to selectively position the spool valve and the blocker valve to an open or closed position.

Actuation apparatus for use with magnetically-triggered proximity switches are described herein. An example apparatus includes an actuator shaft having a first segment and a second segment, the first segment intersecting the second segment. The first segment defines a first end of the actuator shaft, and the second segment defines a second end of the actuator shaft opposite the first end. The second segment further defines a slot. The apparatus further includes a detector magnet assembly coupled to the first segment of the actuator shaft adjacent the first end. The apparatus further includes a switch arm coupled to the second segment of the actuator shaft. The switch arm includes a first end, a second end opposite the first end, and a portion located between the first and second ends of the switch arm. The portion of the switch arm is positioned in the slot of the actuator shaft.

Actuation apparatus for magnetically-triggered proximity switches

A valve controller assembly includes a first switch that generates a first input signal based on an operational parameter of a control valve, and a docking assembly is communicatively coupled to the first switch. A switching module is removably secured to and communicatively coupled to the docking assembly such that the first switch is communicatively coupled to the switching module when the switching module is secured to the docking member. The switching module includes a first emulation circuit adapted to receive the first input signal, process the first input signal, and output a first output signal that is different than the first input signal.

An automatic speed searching device for a partial stroke test of a control valve includes a spool valve operatively connected to a pilot valve and a blocker valve. An electrical module is operatively connected to the pilot valve, a supply of control fluid, and the blocker valve. In an open position of the spool valve, a first control fluid inlet is fluidly connected to a first control fluid outlet, and in a closed position of the spool valve the first control fluid outlet is fluidly connected to a second control fluid outlet. A method of determining an optimum stroke speed includes iteratively powering a main and secondary solenoid in the electrical module and updating parameters to move a control element of the control valve until movement of the control element is within a desired range.

Automatic speed searching device and method for a partial stroke test of a control valve

A multi-function stalk switch that incorporates a pushbutton switch, a first rotary switch and a second rotary switch onto the end of a stalk, wherein further switching functions may be executed by moving the entire stalk in either of two orthogonal planes. The stalk switch incorporates many design features that enable it to be assembled at low cost from a small number of parts. One such feature is the use of plastic-on-plastic detents to control positioning of the rotary switches so that they wipe across predetermined portions of a flexible printed circuit board. Another feature is the inclusion of a springloaded plunger detent riding in a concave centering mechanism that is operable to automatically return the stalk switch to its central (neutral) position after removal of external biasing forces. A further feature is the inclusion of magnets on the stalk switch and Hall effect sensors fixedly mounted nearby in order to sense movement of the magnets (and therefore the stalk) in two orthogonal planes. Further features of the invention are also disclosed.

Multi-function stalk switch

An electrically controlled fluid control valve comprises an electrical position controller governed by a signal proportional to the position of a movable element of the valve to regulate current to a shape memory alloy (SMA) valve actuator to position the movable element to a desired position. The control valve may also include a temperature controller governed by a signal provided by a temperature-sensing element in proximity to the valve actuator to activate a cooling device for reducing the surrounding temperature. A digital selector switch may be used for generating a digital code of a selected heating rate which may govern the electrical controller to regulate current to the SMA drive element. The electrical controller may also be governed by both position measurement and a temperature signals to regulate current to the SMA valve actuator and to control the cooling device to position the movable element to a desired position.

Shape memory alloy actuated fluid control valve

A fluid control valve having a shaped memory alloy (SMA) driven actuator is disclosed. The SMA driven actuator includes a first frame section coupled to a valve body and fixed in relation thereto, a second frame section coupled to a movable element of the valve body and movable in relation to the valve body, and a multiplicity of SMA wire sections coupling the first and second frame sections for moving the movable element from a biased first position to a second position when heated. An electrical controller controls the heating of the SMA wire sections by regulating current therethrough, preferably using pulse width modulation techniques. The electrical controller may be governed by a position measurement signal proportional to the position of the movable element to regulate current to the SMA drive element to position the movable element to a desired position. The position measuring signal may be provided from a position measuring element integral to the valve actuator. The valve actuator may also include a temperature controller governed by an electrical temperature signal provided by a temperature-sensing device in proximity to the SMA drive element to activate a cooling device for reducing the temperature surrounding the SMA drive element when activated. A digital selector switch may be used for generating a digital code of a selected heating rate which may govern the electrical controller to regulate current to the SMA drive element. The electrical controller may also be governed by both a position measurement and a temperature signal to regulate current to the SMA drive element and to control the cooling device to position the movable element to a desired position. The actuator may include at least one bobbin that is wound with a multiplicity of wire windings. A conductive material may be applied to the surface of grooved sections of the bobbin onto which the SMA wire windings are wound. Alternatively, the SMA wire may be coated with a conductive material and then wound about the bobbin and thereafter, the conductive material may be removed from the surface of the SMA wire not in contact with the bobbin.

A system for providing an electrical power and electronic communication link between a tractor and trailer includes a tractor module associated with the tractor and a trailer module associated with the trailer. The tractor module controls a plurality of switching devices operable to switch a corresponding plurality of electrical lines extending between the tractor electrical system and the trailer to one of an electrical power line, a ground line and a communication line. The trailer module similarly controls a plurality of switching devices operable to switch a corresponding plurality of electrical lines extending between the trailer lighting system and the tractor electrical system to one of an electrical system of the trailer a communication line. The tractor and trailer modules are operable to establish a communication link therebetween and gather diagnostic data relating to the trailer electrical system, and to selectively route electrical power and/or ground to the trailer electrical system while maintaining control over the trailer lighting system each of the tractor and trailer modules is further operable to control their corresponding switching devices to switch back to the conventional electrical connection if the communication link is inoperable.

Power and communications link between a tractor and trailer

A completely solid state rotary beacon which produces a rotary beacon lighting effect without the use of mechanical components or rotating parts. The device of the present invention includes a plurality of light sources which are equicircumferentially spaced around the outer perimeter of the rotary beacon. These light sources are intermittently illuminated by an electronic controller in such a fashion that the illusion of a rotating light beacon is produced without the need for rotating mechanical components. The lighting sequence, in conjunction with the unique parabolic reflector arrangement of the present invention, create the illusion of a light source being rotated in a 360.degree. path. This effect is achieved by the present invention without the use of rotating mechanical components.

Solid state rotary apparent beacon

A lamp, such as for truck trailers and/or tractors, is provided with LEDs mounted to a circuit board placed in a housing. The housing is thereafter partially filled with a liquid resin material and a lip portion of a lens member is pressed into the resin into contact with the circuit board. The resin material is cured with thermally conductive particles suspended therein for conducting excess heat to the outer aluminum housing and the outer environment. A hermetic seal is formed by the resin material between the lens member and the LED bearing circuit board. The lens member has a series of parallel, elongated lens ribs providing constant optics while allowing additional LEDs to be positioned in a row behind a lens rib. The lens member is completely recessed within the housing for enhanced protection from mechanical damage thereto.
