The present invention is directed to a small size and light weight small form factor user system suitable for having TTNT connectivity which consumes minimum power to operate. The small form factor user system having TTNT connectivity may be capable of interacting in a low latency real time manner with airborne networks. The small form factor user system having TTNT connectivity may have significantly reduced radio power consumption and form factor size through maintaining core capabilities of the full size TTNT terminal while relaxing other capabilities. An encapsulated message structure may be utilized to simplify communication between the TTNT small form factor user system and the full size TTNT nodes.

A spread spectrum communication system includes a transceiver configured to transmit a spread spectrum waveform. The spread spectrum waveform comprises transmitted signals at varying frequencies within a radio frequency spectrum of operation. The frequency variation is controlled according to a hopping sequence. A spectral sensor of the communication system is configured to dynamically scan the radio frequency spectrum of operation and to generate channel occupancy data based upon the scans. A real time hopping sequence generator is configured to dynamically generate the hopping sequence in real time as a function of the channel occupancy data.

The present invention provides a method for using an Organization and Control Proxy (OCP) to configure a network communications infrastructure. OCP functionality is distributed across nodes possessing OCP elements. An extensible language for specification of waveform properties is used by the OCP elements to negotiate spectral use information and to negotiate configurations between two or more endpoints of a dynamic socket waveform connection. A network stack is configured by the OCP to provide requested service to an end user.

A radio network management system, having at least one centralized node is described. The at least one centralized node includes a radio transceiver having more than one adjustable parameter. The centralized node also includes at least one adaptive tuning engine configured to make changes to the at least one adjustable parameter. A weighted analysis function is configured to provide a weighted analysis based on the output of the at least one adaptive tuning engine. Further, a cognitive learning function is configured to provide feedback to make optimally directed adjustments to the at least one adaptive tuning engine.

A method and system for radio communications between mobile units and base stations geographically distributed through a substantial geographic area described. The system automatically finds and engages broadcast frequency for each geographic region. The engagement is confirmed at both the mobile unit and network so that both can begin data transmission and reception between each other as well as keep track of the status of one another. The system also verifies the correct base station has been engaged as well as automatically terminates communications once the mobile unit passes out of coverage for that base station.
