Existing text output from a design rule checker is put in appropriate input format, and automatically displayed as text within a design tool using existing design tool capabilities, such as highlighting, zooming, and drawing box-regions. A graphical display of the output of the rule checker includes the informative text. Design rule violations are listed in a manner in which they can be individually selected. The output is displayed on a unique software program layer within the design tool so as to not effect or make any permanent changes to the original design file. The layers can be safely deleted when no longer in use.

Method and system for creating, viewing, editing, and sharing output from a design checking system

A heatsink including an electromagnetic bandgap structure reduces electromagnetic interference caused by an integrated circuit in an electronic device. One embodiment provides a heatsink having a base with an array of electrically-conductive, thermally-conductive patches spaced apart in two dimensions of a reference plane and having a thickness perpendicular to the reference plane. The patches are interconnected by a plurality of branches. Each branch connects adjacent patches and has a width in the reference plane of less than a width of each adjacent patch. A plurality of thermally conductive cooling fins coupled to a surface of the base and extend normal to the reference plane. The cooling fins may be formed of a thermally-conductive, electrically non-conductive material or may be coupled to the base by a thermally-conductive, electrically non-conductive material. The periodically patterned structure of the base, together with a solid metal layer of a circuit board, form an electromagnetic bandgap structure that reduces certain frequencies of electromagnetic noise caused by the integrated circuit.

A cable for high speed data communications and methods for manufacturing such cable are disclosed, the cable including a first inner conductor enclosed by a first dielectric layer and a second inner conductor enclosed by a second dielectric layer. The cable also includes conductive shield material wrapped in a rotational direction at a rate along and about the longitudinal axis around the inner conductors and the dielectric layers, including overlapped wraps of the conductive shield material along and about the longitudinal axis, the conductive shield material having a variable width. Transmitting signals on the cable including transmitting a balanced signal characterized by a frequency in the range of 7-9 gigahertz on the cable.

An improved solution for designing and/or evaluating a circuit is provided. A rule violation can be detected in design data for the circuit and a prediction can be generated based on an adjustment to the design data. For example, multiple predictions can be generated based on an adjustment window for an adjustable parameter in the design data. The predictions can be displayed to a user, who can determine a desired modification to the design data. The modification can be implemented by the user and/or automatically implemented by a circuit design tool.

Method, system and program product for evaluating a circuit

A method for changing an operation performed by an electronic device includes defining a process flow chart of the operation to be performed by the electronic device, the process flow chart having one or more primitive actions, the operation having one or more components, the primitive action operating on the components to produce an output. The method further includes determining a number of information dispersal units for each of the components. For each of the components, defining a set of information dispersal units, transforming one or more of the primitive actions of the operation using a transform function to create a transformed primitive action, and applying each of the transformed primitive actions to all the respective sets of information dispersal units to produce a transformed set of transformed information dispersal units.

System and method for protecting against leakage of sensitive information from compromising electromagnetic emanations from computing systems

An electronic device for distorting sensitive information in one or more electromagnetic emanations from the electronic device is disclosed. The device has one or more active layers having one or more electronic components that emit the electromagnetic emanations and one or more conductive substrate layers planarity adjacent to one or more of the active layers that distort the electromagnetic emanations. In alternative embodiments of the inventions, shielding is added with frequency selective openings. In other alternative embodiments, a signal source is added to distort sensitive information.

An improved method and means for decoupling a printed circuit board are disclosed. A power plane is included having a peripheral edge. The power plane includes a first region and a second region which is separate from and contiguous to the first region. The first region is located from the peripheral edge to a middle portion of the power plane. The first region includes a peripheral portion of the power plane. The second region includes only the middle portion of the power plane. A ground plane is coupled in parallel to the power plane. The ground plane has a peripheral edge. The ground plane includes a first region, and a second region which is separate from and contiguous to the first region. The first region includes the peripheral edge and includes a peripheral portion of the ground plane. The second region includes a middle portion of the ground plane. A first plurality of decoupling elements are connected to the first region of the power plane and to the first region of the ground plane. A second plurality of decoupling elements are connected to the second region of the power plane and to the second region of the ground plane. The first and second plurality of decoupling elements are utilized to decouple the power plane and ground plane pair.

Method and means for decoupling a printed circuit board

A data processing system and method are disclosed for efficiently determining a total return current spread at an evaluation point in a reference plane in a printed circuit board. A plurality of critical ones of a plurality of traces included within the printed circuit board are identified. For each one of the plurality of critical ones of the plurality of traces, a return current function is determined including a return current value produced by only each one of the plurality of critical ones of the plurality of traces at each point in the reference plane. A total return current spread is determined at the evaluation point utilizing the return current function associated with each one of the plurality of critical ones of the plurality of traces.

Data processing system and method for efficient determination of return current spread

A computer processor socket has a base with grounding and signal holes. Each hole contains a pin for electrical interconnection with a circuit board. The socket also contains a grounding device around its perimeter. The grounding device has a continuous ring of wiping members on its upper end. When a processor is mounted to the top of the socket, the wiping members extend slightly above the processor. The heatsink mounted on top of the processor engages the wiping members which are spring-biased against its lower surface. Since the wiping members extend completely around the perimeter of the socket, a continuous electrical ground interface is formed between the heatsink and the socket. The lower ends of the grounding device are electrically interconnected with the socket grounding pins which are grounded to the board.
