A system including a lighting controller and a radio adapter. The lighting controller includes a smart port and is configured to control at least one lighting fixture. The radio adapter is communicatively coupled to the lighting controller via the smart port. The radio adapter is configured to establish a wireless communication link between the lighting controller and an external device, communicatively couple the external device to the lighting controller via the smart port, and provide a master clock timing signal to the lighting controller via the smart port.

Systems and methods for controlling a light emitting diode (LED) system having a plurality of LED arrays are provided. The lighting system can include a dimmable LED driver circuit configured to provide a driver output suitable for providing a driver current to the LED arrays. A current splitter circuit can be provided between the LED driver circuit and the plurality of LED arrays to control the ratio of current from the driver output provided to each of the plurality of LED arrays. The current splitter circuit can be configured to control the current ratio provided to the plurality of LED arrays independently of the driver output according to a current ratio control curve based at least in part on a variable reference signal provided at the current splitter circuit.

An electronic ballast and startup method including an electronic ballast operably connected to a lamp having a lamp filament, the electronic ballast having a timer () generating an inverter control signal () and a preheat control signal (); a converter () receiving AC power and generating DC power (); a self-oscillating inverter () receiving DC power () and being operable to provide lamp power () to the lamp, the self-oscillating inverter () being responsive to the inverter control signal (); and a filament preheater () receiving DC power () and being operable to provide filament power () to the lamp filament, the filament preheater () being responsive to the preheat control signal (). When AC power is initially applied, preheat control signal () directs the filament preheater () to provide filament power (), and inverter control signal () directs the self-oscillating inverter () not to provide lamp power ().

Electronic ballast and startup method

An electronic ballast includes a series resonant inductor and capacitor and a filament winding magnetically coupled to said inductor. The filament winding forms a closed circuit with a filament in a gas discharge lamp, wherein the current induced in the winding opposes a portion of the current through the inductor to reduce the net voltage on the filament during normal lamp operation. In accordance with another aspect of the invention, the filament winding is reversely wound with the inductor on a common core to reverse the phase of the current induced in the filament winding from the current through the inductor.

A standby power supply system (SPS) is connected to supply power to a load by way of a transfer switch, to replace power from the AC lines, when the AC line fails to provide sufficient voltage to operate the load (e.g., 85% of nominal RMS voltage usually 120 VAC-RMS). The SPS has an inverter which switches voltage from a battery to generate AC power when the line fails. The inverter is controlled by varying the width of switching pulses in order to regulate the AC output voltage and compensate for reductions in battery voltage as the battery discharges. The AC output voltage is also synchronized with the line voltage when the line voltage returns (increases to greater than 85% of nominal value) so that on switch over back to the AC line, the AC waveform applied to the load does not change substantially before and after switch over. The inverter is controlled by a computer controller (microprocessor) directly in response to current in the inverter for regulating the output voltage without the need for sensing the output voltage, thereby avoiding sensing transformers and ancillary circuits connected to the AC lines. The microprocessor also functions as a variable frequency oscillator for synchronizing the inverter AC voltage with the line AC voltage thereby preventing output waveform discontinuities upon switch over from the inverter to the AC line.

Computer controlled standby power supply system

An inverter power supply system (DC input, AC output) with a bridge type power stage having switching devices (transistors) in each arm is used to create an AC output voltage across the bridge center terminals. The transistors execute numerous switching cycles per period to create an output waveform that has a low frequency AC component together with a high frequency AC component that is removed via a low pass filter. Unless some means is provided to prevent it, a DC component is usually present at the output of the inverter as well. This DC component will cause saturation in transformer coupled loads with attendant excessive inverter device currents unless means are provided to limit or eliminate the DC component of the output voltage. To control the DC component of the output voltage, a magnetic sensing element is connected across the output terminals of the inverter and a voltage proportional to the DC component of the inverter output voltage is developed by measuring the difference between the positive and negative peaks of the current in the magnetic sensing element. The voltage proportional to the DC component of the inverter output voltage is applied to the control circuits creating the switching pattern for the inverter transistors in such a way as to eliminate the DC output voltage component.
