A thin resonant induction wireless power transmission transfer coil assembly designed for low loss and ease of manufacturing includes one or more printed circuit boards having a first conductor pattern wound in a spiral on a first side and a second conductor pattern wound in a spiral on a second side thereof, where the second conductor pattern is aligned with the first conductor pattern whereby the second conductor pattern reinforces magnetic flux generated by the first conductor pattern. The first and second conductor patterns are placed relative to one another so as to provide flux transmission in a same direction. One or more of such printed circuit boards form a wireless power transmission coil assembly with a conductive winding layer, a ferrite flux diversion layer, conformal spacing layers, an eddy current shield layer and an assembly enclosure.

Wireless power transfer thin profile coil assembly

A vehicle alignment system is adapted to align a vehicle with a wireless power induction coil for wireless charging through use of magnetic resonant induction. The system includes a transmission line disposed in the parking slot so as to guide the vehicle to the wireless power induction coil for charging. The transmission line leaks a signal having an operating frequency that is detected to align the vehicle left-right in the parking slot when the vehicle is aligned for charging by the wireless power induction coil. At least two vehicle mounted antennas mounted on opposite sides of transmission line when the vehicle is aligned in the parking slot detect the operating frequency from the transmission line, and signal processing circuitry detects a relative signal phase between signals detected by the antennas. The relative phase differences between the detected signals from the antennas are representative of alignment of the vehicle with respect to the wireless power induction coil and the parking slot.

Method and apparatus for the alignment of a vehicle and charging coil prior to wireless charging

A method for adjusting reactance includes an adjustable reactance generator including a comparator receiving an input sinusoidal waveform and outputting a square wave that retains the frequency and phase of the applied sinusoidal waveform. The reactance adjustment is generated using a power switching circuit that receives the square wave from the comparator as a control signal and outputs a square wave that retains the frequency and phase of the applied sinusoidal voltage waveform, an adjustable power supply that adjusts the amplitude of the square wave output by the power switching circuit, and an amplitude detector that controls the output level of the adjustable power supply. The power switching circuit output, when converted to a sinusoid, provides the effect of an adjustable reactance.

Method of and apparatus for generating an adjustable reactance

A method for detecting induction coil alignment error in resonant induction wireless power apparatus includes an eddy current coil array superimposed upon the primary induction coil, a switching device for each eddy current coil, a voltage detector such as a low power rectifier connected to the secondary induction coil, an analog-to-digital converter, primary and secondary side micro-controllers, and, in a vehicle charging embodiment, a vehicle operator interface. During coil alignment, the primary side induction coil operates at low power. Eddy current flows in an eddy current coil only if the associated switching device is switched on.

Method of and apparatus for detecting coil alignment error in wireless inductive power transmission

A full duplex, low latency, near field data link controls a static and/or dynamic resonant induction, wireless power transfer system used for recharging electric vehicles and other electrically powered devices. A coherent transponder configuration enables low complexity synchronous detection and positive rejection of signals originating from nearby and adjacent vehicles. A reference crystal oscillator in the ground side apparatus provides frequency synchronization for both the forward and the return data links. Transmission is by means of near field magnetic induction between pairs of loop antennas which, together with the effective waveguide below cutoff structure comprised by the vehicle underbody and the ground surface, largely restrict signal propagation to the area in the immediate vicinity of the system antennas.

Near field, full duplex data link for use in static and dynamic resonant induction wireless charging

At least two vehicle mounted antennas mounted on opposite sides of a left-right center line through the wireless power induction coil when the vehicle is aligned in the parking slot containing the wireless induction coil receive the operating frequency from the leaky transmission line, and signal processing circuitry detects a relative signal phase between signals induced by switching between antennas on opposite sides of the leaky transmission line. The relative phase differences between the detected signals from the antennas are representative of alignment of the vehicle with respect to the wireless power induction coil and the parking slot.

Method and apparatus for the alignment of vehicles prior to wireless charging including a transmission line that leaks a signal for alignment

A wireless power transmission circuit for wirelessly transmitting line frequency sinusoidal AC power to a load where the line frequency ripple filter of conventional circuits is eliminated and a DC-to-AC inverter is replaced by a simple polarity inversion circuit. The envelope of the high frequency AC on the AC line frequency source side is not constant but varies continuously in a half-sinusoidal fashion at the line frequency. Wireless transmission occurs only with a half-sinusoidal, constantly varying envelope, not the constant amplitude envelope of prior art. High frequency rectification and high frequency ripple filtering occurs as in the prior art but the ripple filter time constant is selected so that resulting waveform is an accurate replica of the rectified line frequency voltage present on the transmitter side. A polarity inversion stage replaces the DC-to-AC inverter of conventional art to generate the line frequency AC.
