Cable interface devices and mounting assemblies are provided for data storage assemblies. A data storage assembly can include media, such as a solid-state drive, a cable interface housing, and a cable interface housing locating feature. A cable interface device is mounted within the cable interface housing. The cable interface device includes a body extending in a first direction that defines an opening at the front side with a protruding connector of a solid-state drive extended through the opening. The cable interface device further includes electrically conductive contacts at least partially disposed inside the body and exposed to the opening. The cable interface device also includes a cable interface device locating feature positioned on, or defined by, the body and complementary in shape to the cable interface housing locating feature, to collectively locate the cable interface device within the cable interface housing.

Cable interface device and mounting assembly

A routing assembly for an electronic device has a plurality of connectors ports and each of the connector ports contains a first connector connected to one or more cables. Cables are directly terminated, at first ends thereof, to terminals of the first connectors and the cables can be embedded in a routing substrate. The routing substrate has an opening which accommodates a chip package. Second ends of the cables are terminated to second connectors arranged in the package opening and the second connectors are in turn connected to the chip package.

Integrated routing assembly and system using same

A routing assembly for an electronic device has a front face with an array of connectors ports and each of the connector ports contain a first connector mounted therein. A first end of a cable can be directly terminated to the first connectors and the cables can be embedded in a tray that is configured to extend toward a chip package. The cables extend from the tray and terminates to a second connector that can be electrically connected to the chip package so as to provide a communication path between the first connector and the second connector that substantially bypasses a supporting circuit board.

A connector for use in a free-standing connector port for mating with an external pluggable module is disclosed. The connector has terminals that extend lengthwise of the connector so that cables may be terminated to the terminals and the terminals and cable generally are horizontally aligned together. The connector defines a card-receiving slot and is position in a cage that defines the connector port. The cables exit from the rear of the connector and from the connector port. The connector includes a heat sink that is configured to cool a module inserted into the connector port.

A compute system is provided that includes cables that are terminated to a grid array connector that is mounted on a substrate that has an integrated circuit packaged mounted thereon. The cables include conductors that are electrically connected to the integrated circuit via terminals supposed by the substrate.

A grid array connector system is provided that includes cables connected to pedestals that are mounted on a board. The cables include conductors that are connected to support vias positioned in openings in the board and the conductors are connected to the support vias.

A grid array connector system is provided that includes cables that are mounted on a board which has a chip packaged mounted thereon. The cables include conductors that are connected to support vias positioned in openings in the board and the conductors are connected to the support vias. The board can be connected to a second board which provides a stiffening ring. The board can be connected to the second board by deflectable terminals which are press-fit into the second board.

A connector system includes a cage assembly in which a thermally conductive heat sink and a connector are mounted. The heat sink includes a base, a ramp extending downwardly from the base and a pedestal extending downwardly from the base. A thermal interface material is disposed on lower surface of the pedestal. A module can be inserted into the cage assembly and connected to the connector and to the heat sink. Thermal energy generated by the module is transferred to the heat sink which dissipates the heat by convention. The ramp protects a leading edge of the thermal interface material form engagement by the module during insertion of the module into the cage assembly.

A computing device includes a first connector near a first wall. The first connector is in communication with a chip package positioned apart for the first wall via a first cable. The chip package includes a chip supported by a support layer. The chip can be supported by a substrate and/or a circuit board. A second connector can be positioned near a second wall and can also be in communication with the chip package via a second cable. If desired, the substrate or circuit board can include a signal board connector that is configured to engage board connectors terminated to ends of the first and second cables.

Computing device using bypass assembly

A grid array connector system is provided that includes cables connected to pedestals that are mounted on a board. The cables include conductors that are connected to support vias positioned in openings in the board and the conductors are connected to the support vias. The board includes signal pads and ground pads that allow the grid array connector system to be connected to other pads provided on a mating surface in a compact manner.

A wire to board connector is provided for connecting cables of cable bypass assemblies to circuitry mounted on a circuit board. The connector has a structure that maintains the geometry of the cable through the connector. The connector includes a pair of edge coupled conductive signal terminals and a ground shield to which the signal terminals are broadside coupled. The connector includes a pair of ground terminals aligned with the signal terminals and both sets of terminals have J-shaped contact portions that flex linearly when the connector is inserted into a receptacle. In another embodiment, the signal terminal contact portions are supported by a compliant member that may deflect when the connectors engage contact pads on a substrate.
