An aircraft includes one or more engines configured to generate high-pressure bleed air and low-pressure bleed air. An aircraft environmental control system (ECS) is in fluid communication with one or more of the engines to receive the high-pressure bleed air and the low-pressure bleed air. The ECS calculates a synthesized low-pressure value associated with the low-pressure bleed air while still providing bleed air using the high pressure bleed air. The ECS further switches from the high pressure bleed air to the low-bleed pressure air through the ECS while blocking flow of the high-pressure bleed air through the ECS based on the synthesized low-pressure value.

Synthesized low-pressure bleed air scheme for aircraft bleed air network

An electronic expansion valve (EEV) is employed in refrigeration systems to regulate the flow of refrigerant through an evaporator. The position of the EEV is controlled through a first control loop that generates a first position signal based on superheat feedback associated with the refrigeration system, and a second control loop that generates a second position signal based on pressure feedback associated with the refrigeration system. The larger of the first position signal and the second position signal is selected to control the position of the EEV value, and the selected position signal is provided in feedback to both the first control loop and the second control loop.

Control algorithm for electronic expansion valve modulation

A piston configuration is provided, the configuration including a piston having a ring seat and a piston ring disposed within the ring seat. The piston ring is configured to form a sealing surface between a surface of the piston ring and a surface of the ring seat. The sealing surface is formed when a first pressure on a first side of the piston ring is greater than a second pressure on a second side of the piston ring. At least one fluid channel is configured to increase a surface area on the piston ring that is subject to the second pressure.

A valve assembly is provided and includes a poppet disposed to regulate a pressure of a fluid flowing through a pathway defined between the poppet and a valve body, a drive element configured to modulate a pressure of a servo fluid to thereby control a position of the poppet relative to the valve body and an actuator body coupled to the poppet and configured to deliver a supply fluid to the drive element from a first cavity defined between the poppet and the actuator body and to deliver the servo fluid from the drive element to a second cavity defined between the actuator body and the poppet. The poppet defines a filter through which fluid flows from the pathway into the first cavity as the supply fluid.

Valve assembly

An electronic controller for a sub-system of an air management system including an area conversion module and a sub-system area control module. The area conversion module includes inputs for a bleed output pressure set point, a bleed output pressure measurement, a sub-system parameter set point, a sub-system parameter measurement, and a sub-system output pressure measurement; and sub-modules for calculating an area set point and an area measurement. The sub-modules generate the area set point as a function of the engine bleed output pressure set point, the sub-system parameter set point, and the sub-system output pressure measurement; and the area measurement as a function of the bleed output pressure measurement, the sub-system parameter measurement, and the sub-system output pressure measurement. The sub-system area control module generates a control output for the sub-system as a function of the calculated area set point and the calculated area measurement.

Decoupling control architecture for pressure and flow controls in series

A galley cooling system comprises a plurality of galley cooling units each to be associated with separate galleys. A sensor senses a condition within each of the galleys. A control determines whether a sensed condition is indicative of efficient operation of a particular galley cooling unit, and the control is operable to decrease cooling capacity delivered to a galley cooling unit which is experiencing inefficient operation. An aircraft galley system incorporating the above cooling unit, and a method of operating a galley cooling unit are also disclosed and claimed.
