A method, system, program product and signal bearing medium embodiments of the present invention provide for deploying software modules for software application use in a computer system thereby reducing load time as well as memory requirements. Deployment of a plurality of software modules and associated deployment descriptors into a software module depository and creation of a deployment information repository from the associated deployment descriptors occurs. A name service is initialized with information from the deployment information repository and a requested software module identifier is then mapped to a respective enabler. Having mapped the requested software module to an enabler, the respective software module is enabled for the software application use. On-demand deployment in this manner saves start-up time as well as initial and ongoing memory allocation.

A method of generating a tool for merging customizations made to a first version of a software artifact when migrating to a second version includes instantiating a mapping element for each top-level element in a first code set that does not have a complementary element in a second code set; requesting and receiving merge instructions for each top-level element for which merge instructions are not provided in the corresponding mapping element; determining whether the merge instructions for each top-level element for which merge instructions are provided require that customizations be merged into the second code set; determining whether the merge instructions for each top-level element set that requires customizations to be merged are valid; requesting and receiving merge instructions for each top-level element for which the merge instructions are not valid; and storing the merge instructions received for each top-level element in the corresponding mapping element.

Framework for automatically merging customizations to structured code that has been refactored

Embodiments of the present invention address deficiencies of the art in respect to extending the user interface of an application, and provide a method, system and computer program product for extending the user interface of an application in a componentized application environment. In one embodiment of the invention, a user interface extension method for a componentized application environment can include specifying in markup a set of user interface controls and further specifying in markup an extension to a user interface control in the set. The markup for the user interface control can be substituted with the markup for the extension. Thereafter, the markup for the extension and the set of user interface controls can be provided to a set of corresponding control factories, absent the substituted user interface control, for generation into user interface control instances defining a user interface for the componentized application environment.

Present edit systems having undo/redo functions are typically inflexible and do not permit users of computer systems to make use of these functions to the greatest advantage. The disclosed edit system having an enhanced undo interface, permits the selective display of undo elements intermixed in the edit view of the document with actual text elements and positioned relative to the affected text The user may select any undo element and selectively restore changes to the text. A series of user interface enhancements provide the user with a flexible set of capabilities for manipulating and assessing changes to a document.
