The present invention provides for a method and an apparatus for archiving and retrieving data. At least one top-level directory is created to store files. A file-location database is created to track stored files in the top level directory. Files from a primary database are received. Files received from the database are archived into the top level directory, in response to receiving files from a primary database. An immediate backup of the archived files is created. A long-term backup of the archived files is created.

The present invention provides for a method of archiving data files. A command to begin archiving is received. An archiving process is initiated in response to said command to begin archiving. An archiving write phase is implemented in response to said initiation of said archiving process. An archived-file deleting process is implemented in response to a completion of said archiving write phase.

Method and apparatus for archiving and deleting large data sets

The present invention provides for a method for archiving data files in a system having a master archiver and a plurality of child archivers. A plurality of child archivers are controlled by coupling the master archiver to each one of the child archivers. The order of at least one manufacturing area is determined to archive data files from the manufacturing area into an archiving destination. An archive protocol file is created for archiving the data file. An archiving process is implemented in response to a specification from the archiving protocol file. A start-up of the archiver process is executed. The child archivers are monitored to determine whether the child archivers have completed the archiving process. A shut-down of the archiving process is executed in response to the determination that the child archivers have completed the archiving process. The archiving process is terminated.

Method and apparatus for parallel processing for archiving and retrieval

A method is disclosed for interactive documentation of a database framework and data continued in a relational database, such as for example, an engineering database having data related to the manufacturing and testing of semiconductor devices. A plurality of documentation levels is provided wherein each documentation level includes a view of the database framework and wherein at least one documentation level includes a high level view of the database framework. The documentation levels include descriptions and definitions of the views of the database framework, and the views of the database framework include descriptions and definitions of entities, attributes and schema of the data in the database. One documentation level, from the plurality of documentation levels, is displayed including the view of the database framework. One or more user selectable items is displayed on the display device with each documentation level. The user selectable items represent other documentation levels or other views of the database framework and the other documentation levels are accessed by actuating one of the user selectable items. The documentation levels and the views of the database framework are based on one or more driving tables included in the database. The driving tables can be modified or updated thereby modifying or updating the documentation levels and the views of the database framework.

Documenting system for entities, attributes and schema of a relational

The present invention discloses a system and method for identifying and retrieving data from a database in a computer system having at least two processors, a memory, and at least one non-volatile storage system and uses a query statement to identify data to be retrieved. The query predicates are classified into a first tier and a second tier, wherein the first tier query predicates relate to higher level data and the second tier query predicates relate to lower level data. The second tier query predicates are divided into two or more views of the lower level data. The first tier query predicates are applied against the higher level data to determine pointers to one or more particular views and the pointers are stored, for example, in a driving table. The second tier query predicates are applied against the particular views of the lower level data and the pointers and particular views of the lower level data are processed wherein data may be identified. The query statement, including the query predicates, is submitted identifying data to be retrieved. The data, as identified in the query statement, is retrieved from the lower level data based on the second tier query predicates and the pointers to the views of said lower level data. The pointers are stored, for example, in a driving table. The driving table and the particular views of the lower level data are processed, preferably, in parallel.
