A macroporous core-shell resin bead having carboxylic acid groups; the bead has from 3% to 100% of monomer residues derived from crosslinker, an average pore diameter of at least 1.5 nm, and an average particle size from 10 &#x3bc;m to 900 &#x3bc;m; wherein at least 90% of the carboxylic acid groups in the bead are in the shell region, and the shell region comprises from 5% to 75% of the bead by volume.

Process for macroporous acrylic resins

A method for producing a macroporous acrylic resin in an aqueous suspension from a C-Calkyl acrylate, an organic solvent and a crosslinker.

An improved process for preparing strong acid cation exchange resins by sulfonation of wet crosslinked copolymer in the absence of organic swelling solvents is disclosed. This process involves dewatering a crosslinked poly(vinylaromatic) copolymer to selected residual moisture levels of 3 to 35%, followed by non-solvent sulfonation, to provide strong acid cation exchange resins having enhanced physical stability and that are free of chlorinated-solvent contaminants.

Method for preparation of strong acid cation exchange resins

An improved process for preparing anion exchange resins based on the use of a non-agitated plug-flow quench procedure followed by recycle of a portion of the recovered chloromethylation reaction fluids into subsequent chloromethylation reactions is disclosed. The combination of plug-flow hydration, providing highly concentrated recovered sulfuric acid, together with the recycle or reuse of the recovered concentrated sulfuric acid, allows for reduced raw material requirements during anion exchange resin manufacture and reduces the environmental impact of waste sulfuric acid processing.

Method for preparation of anion exchange resins

A process for the removal and destruction of organic compounds in liquid and gaseous streams by complete oxidation of the organic compounds in the presence of a carbonaceous catalyst at temperatures below about 400.degree. C. is disclosed. The process involves removal of organic compounds in a regeneration step from adsorbents containing organic compounds adsorbed thereon, in which the organic compounds have been previously removed from contaminated fluid streams in an adsorption step, and destruction of the contaminants in an oxidative destruction step by contacting the organic compounds with a carbonaceous catalyst in the presence of oxygen. The process involving oxidation catalysts optionally doped with transition metal oxides is particularly useful for the complete destruction of volatile organic chemicals found in contaminated groundwaters.
