A method for depositing a composite coating on a substrate is provided. The coating contains a mixture of ductile metal particles and a uniformly dispersed polymer particles. The polymer is present in a concentration effective to reduce frictional forces. The coating mixture is compacted such as by isostatic pressing, formed into strips and then clad to the substrate. One preferred coating contains 0.5 weight percent polytetrafluoro-ethylene in a tin matrix.

Method of making coated electrical connectors

A method of fabricating a rugged, flexible, superconducting wire comprising: mixing a superconducting material, such as YBa.sub.2 Cu.sub.3 O.sub.x, with a metallic powder to form a metal/superconductor mixture; and loading a metal shell or tube with the metal/superconductor mixture to form a superconducting wire. The superconducting wire may also be cold drawn and annealed to form a very dense wire. The metallic powder is either copper, copper alloy, aluminum or other face centered cubic element. Additionally, a superconducting wire may be formed by encapsulating a superconducting filament within a metal shell.

Fabrication of superconducting wire and product

A composite coating for electrical connectors is provided. The coating contains a ductile metal matrix and an uniformly dispersed polymer component. The polymer component is present in a concentration effective to reduce frictional forces generated when inserting an insertion component into a socket. The composite coating has lower friction and improved fretting corrosion resistance as compared to an electrodeposited tin coating. One preferred coating contains 0.5 weight percent polytetrafluoroethylene in a tin matrix.

Composite coating for electrical connectors

A method for fabricating a ceramic superconductor comprising the following steps: mixing a copper or copper alloy metal, a first metal oxide or carbonate which includes one element selected from group IIA of the Chemical Periodic Table, and a second metal oxide or carbonate which includes one element selected from group IIIB of the Chemical Periodic Table to form a copper/ceramic mixture; heting a copper/ceramic mixture to a temperature in the range between 900.degree.-1100.degree. C.; and cooling the heated copper/ceramic mixture slowly, thereby forming a superconductive material. The copper/ceramic mixture may be extruded through a die prior to the heating step, thereby forming a superconductor of desired shape.
