A push-pull control cable assembly having a casing of a predetermined length with a core slidably received therein. A push-through-to-lock anchor fitting is provided at each end of the casing. A fixedly positioned terminal end fitting is secured to the core through an end rod. The fixedly positioned terminal end fitting employs a receiver with a blind bore. A slot in the receiver transversely intersects the blind bore, and a locking tab is received in the slot to be selectively slidable between first and second positions. The locking tab has an aperture. The aperture permits a connecting spur to be inserted therein and withdrawn therefrom when the locking tab is in its first position. The aperture engages the connecting spur to preclude withdrawal thereof when the locking tab is in its second position. A selectively positionable terminal end fitting is secured to the core through another end rod. The selectively positionable terminal end fitting has a housing. A concave race extends circumferentially within the housing, and ports open transversely through the concave race. An annular connecting ring is received within the concave race for limited circumferential and transverse rotation relative to the concave race. The connecting ring receives a grooved end rod extending through the ports. An adjusting member having a plurality of dogs is removably secured within the connecting ring. The dogs selectively engage the grooved end rod to preclude removal of the end rod from the connecting ring.

Push-pull control cable assembly with quick-release terminal fittings

A connector assembly includes a connector having an inner member with first and second open ends and a bore extending therebetween. The inner member is formed of a material which is impervious to a particular fluid to flow through the connector assembly. An outer member encapsulates the inner member and is formed of a material dissimilar from the material of the inner member, which material resists abrasions and other deleterious elements to which the connector is exposed. Flexible retaining latches are formed integrally on the outer member of the connector and snap over an annular projection formed on a tubular conduit upon insertion of the conduit through the first open end and into the bore of the inner member. An elastomeric seal disposed in the bore of the inner member provides a fluid tight seal between the conduit and inner member. Another elastomeric seal is located within the bore of the inner member adjacent the second open end, and provides a fluid tight seal with a tubular member inserted therein. The tubular member may be a multi-wall conduit of dissimilar materials to provide both physical protection and prevent effusion. The connector is formed by a method of premolding the inner member of a first plastic material and then inserting the elastomeric seals and metal washer therein. Next, the inner member is placed in a mold cavity and the outer member is molded about and encapsulates the inner member and secures the seals and metal washer within the inner member. A rigid one-piece plastic retaining clip may be slidably mounted within aligned apertures in one end of the connector to removably secure an end of the tubular conduct therein with the metal washer securing the tubular member within the other end of the connector.

Connector assembly and method of manufacture

A motion transmitting remote control assembly (10) including a conduit (12), and a motion transmitting core element (14) moveably supported by the conduit (12). A terminal (22) is attached to one end of the core element (14) for attachment to a member to be controlled. The terminal (22) adjusts the effective length of the core element (14) by manually locking the terminal (22) into any one of various locking positions and includes three members. The first member (24) includes a first (46) and second (48) plurality of teeth (50) inclined away from one another and is attached to the core element (14). The second member (26) is attached to the control member. The third member (28) includes a first (46') and a second (48') plurality of teeth (50') adapted for matingly interconnecting the first and second members (24, 26) and is moveable between an unlocked position, allowing relative movement between the first and second members ( 24, 26) and a locked position for preventing such relative movement. An alternative assembly includes a mid-conduit adjustment device having a first member and third member. Two rows of oppositely inclined teeth on the third member are moveable into locking engagement with two rows of oppositely inclined teeth on the first member.

Manual adjust having oppositely toothed fitting

A conduit including an inner tubular liner comprised of organic polymeric material, an outer case and an intermediate layer of metallic filaments extending alternatively in a first direction and then in a second opposite helical direction about the inner tubular liner. The method of making same comprises the steps of; providing an organic polymeric inner tubular liner, applying a single layer of filaments alternately in a first helical direction and then in a second opposite helical direction continuously about the inner liner, and applying an outer layer thereabout.

Reverse stranded conduit

A pushpull cable conduit is made by continuously moving a tubular mandrel through a crosshead extruding die, forming a tape of micro-porous polytetrafluoroethylene resin into cylindrical form covering the mandrel as it enters the extruding die, extruding an outer layer of fluid polymeric material over the cylindrical covering in the presence of heat, helically wrapping contiguous wires over said outer layer to form a wire layer, extruding an outer covering of thermoplastic material over the wire layer, and removing the tubular mandrel. The porosity of the polytetrafluoroethylene covering insures a good heat bond with the outer layer of fluid polymeric material and also provides a lubricant reservoir in its inner surface, thereby minimizing friction with the cable core and greatly reducing sound transmission.

Method of making push-pull cable conduit and product

A system for transferring motion between locations remote with respect to each other by a push-pull control cable assembly. The system employs a motion conversion unit at either or both control and controlled station, said units serving to convert rotary motion into linear motion, and vice versa. That is, a force transfer shaft is rotatably mounted in the housing of the motion conversion unit to receive, or impart, rotary motion, and the core element of the push-pull control cable assembly -- which receives, or imparts, linear motion -- extends into, or through, the unit in transversely spaced relation with respect to the shaft. That portion of the normally flexible core element which extends into, or through, the unit is made rigid to impart columnar strength. A crosshead is secured to the rigidified portion of the core element and is slidably received within a first guideway presented from the housing to minimize lateral loading to the rigidified portion of the core element. The crosshead is also slidably received in a second guideway provided on a throw arm secured to the shaft. Movement of the crosshead simultaneously along the two guideways permits a conversion to be effected between the linear movement of the core element and the rotary movement of the force transfer shaft. A universal mounting plate is also disclosed which permits the unit to be mounted in a plurality of dispositions in order to suit the orientation required for various environments.
