Solid lithium-ion ceramic electrolyte membranes have an average thickness of less than 200 micrometers. A constituent electrolyte material has an average grain size of less than 10 micrometers. The solid lithium-ion ceramic electrolyte is free-standing. Alternatively, solid lithium-ion electrolyte membranes have a composition represented by LiMM'M″(PO), where M is a 3ion, M′ is a 4ion, M″ is a 5ion, 0≤x≤2 and 0≤y≤2.

Reactive sintering of ceramic lithium-ion solid electrolytes

A ceramic waveguide includes: a doped metal oxide ceramic core layer; and at least one cladding layer comprising the metal oxide surrounding the core layer, such that the core layer includes an erbium dopant and at least one rare earth metal dopant being: lanthanum, cerium, praseodymium, neodymium, promethium, samarium, europium, gadolinium, terbium, dysprosium, holmium, thulium, ytterbium, lutetium, scandium, or oxides thereof, or at least one non-rare earth metal dopant comprising zirconium or oxides thereof. Disclosed herein are glasses that present several advantages over traditional glass compositions used in optical applications. The glasses disclosed herein have a low devitrification tendency and can be processed by melt quenching and formed into macroscopic components. The glasses have high glass thermal stability indices and are chemically durable. The glasses disclosed herein are transparent when heat treated in air or oxygen and have high refractive indices and low density, as well, making them suitable for optical applications.

High refractive index phosphate glass

A transparent glass-ceramic composition including: of the formula TaAlOwhere x is less than 1; of the formula AlTaO; of the formula AlPO; a mixture of AlTaOand AlPO; or a mixture of the formula TaAlO, AlTaO, and AlPO. Also disclosed are transparent glass-ceramic compositions including, for example, a dopant as defined herein, or a supplemental metal oxide or metalloid oxide of MO, MM'O, or a mixture thereof such as oxides of Nb, Ti, W, B, or Ga, as defined herein. Also disclosed are methods of making the disclosed transparent glass-ceramic compositions, and optical articles, optical components, and optical apparatus thereof.

Transparent tantalum oxide glass-ceramics and transparent aluminum tantalate glass-ceramics

A method of forming a solid, dense, hermetic lithium-ion electrolyte membrane comprises combing an amorphous, glassy, or low melting temperature solid reactant with a refractory oxide reactant to form a mixture, casting the mixture to form a green body, and sintering the green body to form a solid membrane. The resulting electrolyte membranes can be incorporated into lithium-ion batteries.

Glass compositions include niobia (NbO), phosphorus oxide (PO) and titania (TiO) as essential components and may optionally include calcium oxide (CaO), potassium oxide (KO), barium oxide (BaO), sodium oxide (NaO), lithium oxide (LiO), magnesia (MgO), zinc oxide (ZnO) and other components. The glasses may be characterized by high refractive index at 587.56 nm at comparably low density at room temperature.

Phosphate glasses with high refractive index and low density

Glass compositions include phosphorus oxide (PO), niobia (NbO), barium oxide (BaO) and potassium oxide (KO) as essential components and may optionally include titania (TiO), calcium oxide (CaO), sodium oxide (NaO), lithium oxide (LiO), bismuth oxide (BiO), strontium oxide (SrO), tungsten oxide (WO) and other components. The glasses may be characterized by high refractive index at 587.56 nm at comparably low density at room temperature.

Phosphate glasses with high refractive index and reduced dispersion

An optical boroaluminate glass article comprises: from greater than or equal to 10.0 mol % to less than or equal to 30.0 mol % AlO; from greater than or equal to 10.0 mol % to less than or equal to 55.0 mol % CaO; from greater than or equal to 10.0 mol % to less than or equal to 25.0 mol % BO; from greater than or equal to 0.0 mol % to less than or equal to 30.0 mol % SiO; and from greater than or equal to 1.0 mol % to less than or equal to 20.0 mol % refractive index raising components. The optical boroaluminate glass article has a refractive index of the glass article, measured at 589.3 nm, of greater than or equal to 1.62, and a density of less than or equal to 4.00 g/cm.

Disclosed herein are TiNb-phosphate glasses that present several advantages over traditional Ti-phosphate glass compositions. The glasses disclosed herein are transparent and have high refractive indices, as well, making them suitable for optical applications.

High refractive index titanium-niobium phosphate glass

Disclosed herein are methods for producing glass articles by hot-melt processing techniques. The methods involve the use of arsenic-free chalcogenide glasses. Despite the absence of arsenic, the chalcogenide glasses have low characteristic temperatures and are stable against crystallization. The low characteristic temperatures render the glasses capable of being hot-melt processed using conventional equipment. The glasses disclosed herein are suitable for the fabrication of optical devices, including but not limited to IR-transmitting optical devices.
