A system for monitoring a power transmission line includes at least one monitoring device located along the power transmission line configured to provide power transmission line data. A wide area situational awareness module is configured to receive the power transmission line data and an adaptation module is configured to receive output from the wide area situational awareness module and further configured to calculate control actions for the power transmission line based on the power transmission line data.

System and method for power grid management

Described are software tools and techniques for use in power system operations and control, enabling direct non-iterative solution and estimation of the state of a power system. Knowledge of the state of a power system is essential for secure, reliable and efficient operation of the system. Power system measurement data including the phasor data, as well as power system parameter and topology data are utilized. A set of redundant nonlinear equations, quadratic or third-order in form is formulated. The nonlinear equations are then solved directly for the state of the power grid. The methodology is non-iterative and offers a direct solution that does not depend on initial guess values or convergence of iterations, thus offering a more robust tool for energy management systems and power systems operation and control.

Methods and systems for power systems analysis: a non-iterative state solver/estimator for power systems operation and control

A power flow controller responsive to power circulation demand for optimizing power transfer is disclosed. When a power flow controller operates at its rated capacity, it can no longer regulate from-bus voltage set-points, line power flow set-points, or both. In such cases, the power flow controller switches to power circulation set-point control without exceeding the rated capacities of the voltage-sourced converters in the power flow controller. Power-voltage (PV) curves associated with voltage stability analysis for maximizing power transfer can be generated and stored for use with a power flow controller operating in automatic power flow control mode.
