Methods, systems, computer-readable media, and apparatuses for determining location are presented. One example method includes obtaining a route comprising an ordered set of waypoints; receiving an indication of traversal of the route beginning at a first waypoint and recording a time associated with the indication; determining location information and time information at a sampling rate; for each subsequent waypoint of the ordered set of waypoints: receiving a signal indicating arrival at a current waypoint of the ordered set of waypoints, determining a time and a ground truth associated with the signal, and determining error information associated with each determined location between the prior waypoint and the current waypoint; and providing the error information to a remote device.

Device, method, and system for determining location

A sensor interface is provided with a number of sensor inputs and a number of client inputs. The client inputs are configured to receive a number of data requests from a number of clients. The number of data requests include at least one data request that specifies a particular type of data to be returned, without identifying a particular physical sensor to be used in acquiring the particular type of data. A processor is configured to i) determine what sensor data can be used to satisfy the number of data requests, ii) configure ones of the sensor inputs to receive sensor data from a number of physical sensors, and iii) if possible, satisfy the number of data requests using the received sensor data. Methods and apparatus pertaining to such a sensor interface are also disclosed.

Systems, apparatus and methods for populating and using a pressure database to determine an altitude of a unit with an unknown altitude are presented. A pressure from one or more barometric pressure sensors linked to respective base stations are interpolated to determine a reference pressure (e.g., at sea level) at arbitrary coordinates (x,y) having pressure reading. For example, a mobile station at the arbitrary coordinates (x,y) records a pressure at the mobile station. A difference between this pressure at the mobile station and the interpolated reference pressure is determined, which may directly be interpreted as a defined altitude of the mobile station.

Method and system for providing information of an access point database are disclosed. In one embodiment, a method of providing information of an access point database comprises receiving a request to access an access point database from a mobile client, generating a segment of the access point database in accordance with at least an application requirement of the mobile client, and providing the segment of the access point database to the mobile client. The application requirement of the mobile client comprises precision level requested by the mobile client, and cache level of the mobile client. The method of generating a segment of the access point database comprises at least one of: generating the segment of the access point database in real-time, and providing the segment of the access point database previously generated and stored in the access point database.

Adaptive access point database management

Techniques for transferring trust between networks are described herein. An example of a method of using a mobile device to transfer trust between networks described herein includes receiving WAN base station information including a WAN base station trustworthiness value, determining a WAN position estimate for the mobile device based on the WAN base station information, receiving access point information including an access point trustworthiness value, determining an access point position estimate for the mobile device based on the access point information, determining if the WAN position estimate and the access point position estimate are corroborated, and increasing the access point trustworthiness value if the WAN position estimate and the access point position estimate are corroborated and the WAN base station trustworthiness value is higher than the access point trustworthiness value.

Method for corroboration and transferring trust between network databases for enhanced positioning accuracy

In a wireless telecommunication network, hybrid (GPS and AFLT) mobile stations provide redundant position information, which is used for time base calibration and/or correction of position measurements. Every mobile station (i.e., handset or cellular phone) can be used as a test instrument, and data from regular wireless phone calls can be supplemented by data from drive-around field test units. The time base and/or position offsets are stored in a base station almanac data base along with other information used for obtaining the most reliable position fixes under a variety of conditions. An automatic system is provided for creating, updating, and maintaining the base station almanac data base. The automatic system not only characterizes the performance of the wireless network but also characterizes the performance of the position determination system. The automatic system provides performance feedback to system operators and customers.
