A multi-modal imaging system () includes a fixed gantry (), and a swivel gantry (). The fixed gantry () supports a first imaging modality. The swivel gantry () connects to the fixed gantry () by at least three mounting points () and supports a second imaging modality. Selectively the swivel gantry () includes a swivel frame () and at least three mounting points () for mounting the fixed and swivel gantries together in an imaging configuration. The at least three mounting points () include at least one hinge () which permits the swivel gantry to swivel about the fixed gantry into a service configuration.

Swivel gantry for multi-modal imaging systems

A transmission radiation source assembly suitable for use in both SPECT and PET imaging includes a line source assembly having a medium energy transmission source. The line source assembly includes a primary collimator rotatably disposed about the medium energy transmission source. The primary collimator includes one or more beam limiting slots for shaping the width of a transmission beam emitted from the line source. An on/off collimator is rotatably disposed about the primary collimator and serves to control the on/off state of the line source. The on/off collimator includes a beam exit slot which, when aligned with one of the beam limiting slots allows the transmission beam to exit the line source. In order to sweep the transmission beam across an opposing detector head, the primary collimator and on/off collimator are synchronously rotated about an axis of rotation of the line source with the on/off collimator in the &ldquo;on&rdquo; position. In order to reduce the possibility of over saturating an opposing detector head with radiation from the line source, the rate at which the primary collimator and on/off collimator are rotated is such that the transmission beam spends greater time in regions of the examination region having high attenuation characteristics and shorter time in regions having low attenuation characteristics.

Line source for gamma camera

A compact, lightweight, portable, versatile and modular field x-ray system is disclosed. A base member is provided and supports an x-ray table. Two vertical masts are also coupled to the base, for movement alongside the table in a direction parallel to its longitudinal dimension. The masts move independently of one another but can also be linked together for movement in unison. A tube head is attached to one mast by articulated structure, including a series of offset arms, which affords the tube head 6 degrees of freedom of movement, both above and below the x-ray table. A spot film device is movably coupled to the second mast. The second mast and spot film device are manually removable from the remainder of the system for operation in radiographic only mode. When the masts are linked together, the tube head, because of the offsetting nature of the coupling arms, can be precisely vertically aligned with respect to the spot film device, and the entire assembly of masts, tube head and spot film device can be moved in unison for fluoroscopic panning.
