A system may include a processor, a printing device, a communication interface operably connected to the processor, and a computer-readable storage medium in communication with the processor. The computer-readable storage medium may include one or more programming instructions for identifying a carbon credit account associated with at least a user, receiving a print job request from the user, receiving a carbon emission value for the print job request, determining whether to accept the print job request based on the carbon emission value and the carbon credit amount, and performing, via the printing device, the print job request in response to accepting the print job request. The carbon credit account may include a carbon credit amount.

Systems and methods for carbon footprint job based accounting

A method of assigning a job in a document processing environment may include receiving, by a first resource, an identifier and a job. The first resource may be in communication with a plurality of second resources in a document processing environment. The identifier may correspond to a profile corresponding to one or more users. The job may have a job type. A customized interface may be displayed on the resource. The customized interface may present one or more options based on the job type and the profile. A selected value may be received for the one or more options. The profile may be updated with the one or more selected values. The job may be performed using the one or more selected values.

Job distribution among networked resources in a document processing environment

A user interface extension allows data entry into a marking machine user interface field from an electronic device, such as a PDA, attached to the marking machine via compatible communications ports. The marking machine includes a UI field into which data must be entered, the user lets the machine know that data will come from the electronic device, and the machine begins monitoring its communications ports for the data. The user enters or selects data to be transmitted from the electronic device, then indicates that the data is ready to be sent, at which point the electronic device transmits the data to the machine via a communications port of the electronic device.

Marking machine user interface supplementation via added, attached portable electronic device

A process that provides a status report following a request for the destruction of data files a user wishes to completely erase from a storage medium, such as a hard drive or removable disk. A system administrator can select a quantity of and pattern to be used in overwrites of the data file so that no one can recover the data from the storage medium. In embodiments, a graphical user interface (GUI) can be provided to allow user triggering of and parameter setting for the process. The GUI can be implemented at a device in which the storage medium is a component or can be implemented in a device driver GUI on a personal computer in communication with the device.
