Provided is an ICD landing nipple. The ICD landing nipple, in one aspect, includes a housing having a passageway extending from a first end to a second end thereof, one or more housing openings extending through a housing sidewall thickness for access to a subterranean formation, and an isolated chamber located in the housing. The ICD landing nipple, in accordance with this aspect, may further include an actuator positioned within the isolated chamber, and one or more landing nipple magnets coupled to the actuator within the isolated chamber, the one or more landing nipple magnets configured to move from a first landing nipple magnet state to a second landing nipple state when the actuator moves from a first actuator state to a second actuator state, the one or more landing nipple magnets configured to magnetically coupled to one or more ICD insert magnets located in the passageway.

Magnetically coupled inflow control device

Provided is a clutch assembly, a SSSV, and a method for operating an SSSV. The clutch assembly, in one aspect, includes an output coupler housing, an input shaft, and an electromagnet coupled to the input shaft. In at least one aspect, the electromagnet is configured to magnetize the output coupler housing when the electromagnet is energized. The clutch assembly, in one aspect, further includes one or more grooves located in an inner surface of a central opening in the output coupler housing and one or more engagement members located in the outer surface of the input shaft.

Electro-mechanical clutch employing a magnetized output coupler housing for downhole tools

Provided is a retrievable safety valve insert. The retrievable safety valve insert, in one aspect, includes an outer housing having a central bore, and a valve closure mechanism coupled to the outer housing proximate a downhole end of the central bore. The retrievable safety valve insert, in accordance with this aspect, further includes a bore flow management actuator disposed in the central bore, the bore flow management actuator configured to slide to move the valve closure mechanism between a closed state and an open state, and one or more safety valve insert magnets coupled to the bore flow management actuator, the one or more safety valve insert magnets configured to magnetically couple with one or more landing nipple magnets of a safety valve landing nipple to slide the bore flow management actuator and move the valve closure mechanism between the closed state and the open state.

Magnetically coupled subsurface safety valve

Disclosed herein are systems and methods including an electromechanical brake used downhole to impart dynamic or static braking capabilities while absorbing or otherwise reducing shock loads. The electromechanical brake may be used for a downhole electromechanical linear actuator to control a valve for the production of subterranean fluid. In some examples, it may be desirable for an electromechanical linear actuator to maintain a retracted position during certain safety and/or maintenance operations. The electromechanical brake includes a brake housing, a first armature rotatably disposed in the brake housing, a second armature rotatably disposed in the brake housing for rotation by a motor, an electrical coil energizable to urge the second armature into axial engagement with the first armature, and a rotational spring for biasing the first armature to a neutral rotational position relative to the brake housing while allowing a limited rotation of the first armature relative to the brake housing.

Dynamically engageable electromechanical brake

Provided is a clutch assembly, a SSSV, and a method for operating an SSSV. The clutch assembly, in one aspect, includes an output coupler housing, an input shaft, and an electromagnet coupled to the input shaft. In at least one aspect, the electromagnet is configured to magnetize the input shaft when the electromagnet is energized. The clutch assembly, in one aspect, further includes one or more grooves located in the input shaft and one or more engagement members located in the inner surface of the central opening of the output coupler housing.

An actuator assembly comprises a ball screw; a ball nut disposed around the ball screw; a cam disposed around the ball nut; a rail disposed adjacent to the cam, the rail operable to stop rotation of the cam to extend the cam axially as the ball nut traverses the ball screw.

Electro-mechanical clutch for downhole tools

A linear electromechanical actuator with a failsafe design may be used with a downhole flow control system. In one example, a subsurface safety valve for controlling flow of production fluids includes a valve closure element moveable between an open position and a closed position in response to a linear movement of an actuating member. A biasing member biases the valve closure element to the closed position. A power section with an electrically-powered motor drives a rotation. A drive section coupled to the power section converts the rotation of the motor to the linear movement of the actuating member to at least open the subsurface safety valve. A clutch selectively decouples the power section from the drive section in response to a power loss.

Failsafe safety valve with linear electromechanical actuation

A mechanical clutch allows for transfer of torque downhole that may avoid the need for a hydraulic electrical coil-driven piston. In one or more examples, an anti-rotation guide for a downhole clutch includes a guide track and a follower moveable along the guide track for guiding relative movement between an upper armature and a lower armature. The guide track includes an axially-extending portion terminating in a circumferential loop. The axially extending portion guides the upper armature into axial engagement with the lower armature in response to rotation of the input shaft. The circumferential loop thereafter allows rotation of the upper and lower armatures together in response to further rotation of the input shaft.

Mechanical clutch for downhole tools

Provided is a clutch assembly, a SSSV, and a method for operating an SSSV. The clutch assembly, in one aspect, includes an output coupler housing, an input shaft, and an electromagnet coupled to the input shaft. In at least one aspect, the electromagnet is configured to axially translate the output coupler housing from a de-coupled state to a coupled state when the electromagnet is energized. The clutch assembly, in one aspect, further includes one or more grooves located in one of an outer surface of the input shaft or an inner surface of the central opening, and one or more engagement members located in the other of the inner surface of the central opening or the outer surface of the input shaft.

An actuator of a downhole tool used in oil and gas exploration and production operations is operable to actuate a first implement in a first direction. A biasing device of the downhole tool is operable to actuate the first implement in a second direction, opposite the first direction. A dampener of the downhole tool is operable to slow an actuation speed of the first implement in the first direction, the second direction, or both. Actuating the first implement in the first direction also actuates a second implement of a flow control device ('FCD') of the downhole tool, to which the first implement is connected, in the first direction, placing the FCD in a first (e.g., open) configuration. Actuating the first implement in the second direction also actuates the second implement of the FCD in the second direction, placing the FCD in a second (e.g., closed) configuration.

Dampening the actuation speed of a downhole tool

Provided is an electro/hydraulic valve for use in a hydrocarbon production well, an electrically surface-controlled subsurface safety valve, and a method of operating an electrically surface-controlled subsurface safety valve. The electro/hydraulic valve for use in a hydrocarbon production well, in one aspect, includes a fluid chamber and an electro/mechanical pump having a fluid inlet and a fluid outlet, and further wherein an inlet check valve is positioned in fluid communication between the fluid chamber and the fluid inlet and an outlet check valve is positioned in fluid communication between the fluid outlet and a hydraulically controlled actuation member.

Electric/hydraulic safety valve

Linear actuators, motor assemblies, and methods to actuate a device or load are presented. A linear actuator includes a piston having a piston slot and configured to linearly shift from a first position to a second position, and rotate as the piston shifts towards the first position. The linear actuator also includes an activating lever having a shoulder that the piston engages as the piston shifts to the second position, where the activating lever is configured to shift after piston engages the shoulder. The linear actuator also includes a retractable rail configured to shift from a first position downwards to a second position, and having a tab positioned in a groove of the piston slot as the piston shifts from the first position to the second position.

Linear actuators, motor assemblies, and methods to actuate a device or load

Provided is a retrievable choke insert. The retrievable choke insert, in one aspect, includes an outer housing including a central bore extending axially through the outer housing, an open end, a closed end, and one or more outer housing openings extending through an outer housing sidewall thickness, and a bore flow management actuator disposed in the central bore, the bore flow management actuator having one or more bore flow management openings extending through a bore flow management actuator sidewall thickness, the bore flow management actuator operable to convey subsurface production fluids there through. The retrievable choke insert, in accordance with this aspect, further includes one or more choke insert magnets coupled to the bore flow management actuator, the one or more choke insert magnets configured to magnetically couple with one or more landing nipple magnets of a choke landing nipple to slide the bore flow management actuator and move the one or more bore flow management openings relative to the one or more outer housing openings to control an amount of the subsurface production fluid entering the bore flow management actuator.

Provided is an electro/hydraulic valve for use in a hydrocarbon production well, an electrically surface-controlled subsurface safety valve, and a method of operating an electrically surface-controlled subsurface safety valve. The electro/hydraulic valve for use in a hydrocarbon production well, in one aspect, includes a fluid chamber, and an electro/thermal expansion pump having a fluid inlet and a fluid outlet, and further wherein an inlet check valve is positioned in fluid communication between the fluid chamber and the fluid inlet and an outlet check valve is positioned in fluid communication between the fluid outlet and a hydraulically controlled actuation member.
