A whitelisting approach to redaction may include receiving a normalization request containing a binary file with complex structured data, such as a workbook or spreadsheet file, from an application on a user device through a redaction service provided by an e-discovery platform. In response to the normalization request, a normalization process starts and runs asynchronously to apply a whitelist to the binary file. The whitelist is configurable and specifies features (e.g., data types, workbook object types, etc.) of the binary file that are considered safe by a party to a lawsuit or investigation. The normalization process includes a pre-processing stage, a transferring stage, and a post-processing stage to push all the data to a visible level and produce a normalized document with the whitelisted features. An artifact containing the normalized document can then be generated and used to render a normalized representation for interactive redaction.

Whitelisting redaction systems and methods

Embodiments as disclosed herein provide a search system with an pre-indexing filter that provides both a sophisticated and contextually tailored approach to filtering documents and a corrector that is adapted to alter a document that has been designated to be filtered out from the indexing process and determine if the altered document should be indexed. The alteration of the document may be tied to the attributes, rules or thresholds used to initially filter the document from the indexing process. The filtering criteria can thus be tailored to a specific context such that both the initial filtering and the alteration process may be better suited for application in that context.

System and method for pre-indexing filtering and correction of documents in search systems

A method for converting arbitrary strings consisting of any combination of numbers, digits, or punctuation into numerical representations for comparisons at run time or any other time using a data store such as a relational database or full text search engine. The method is designed to build a numeric representation having small, fixed length values that are stored in numeric data types supported by the data store. All arbitrary string data is converted to a numeric representation using the method and placed in the data store. Queries of the data can be converted to a similar numeric representation.
