A system and method for interconnecting multiple mesh transport medium technologies is disclosed. Two nodes are part of a mesh sub-network using a first access technology. The two nodes have at least two paths using the first access technology that couple the two nodes together. A third path using a second access technology also couples the two nodes together.

A base transceiver station (BTS) includes a radio access network (RAN) interface for communicating with mobile stations and a backhaul interface for communicating with a backhaul network. A RAN element management system generates RAN status information based on event notifications from the RAN interface. A backhaul element management system generates backhaul status information based on event notifications from the backhaul interface. A correlation engine generates correlated status information for the BTS based on the RAN status information and the backhaul status information. The correlated status information indicates performance of the RAN interface in combination with the backhaul interface. The correlated status information is monitored at a network management system (NMS). The NMS may be used to take corrective actions to address problems identified in the correlated status information.

A communication network architecture comprises an access tier including access packet switches coupled to users, a backbone tier including hub packet switches coupled to one another, and a transit tier including transit packet switches coupling the access tier to the backbone tier. OSI layer one protection is disabled between the access tier and the transit tier and is disabled between the transit tier and the backbone tier. In some examples, a control system selects protection schemes for selected communication trunks and directs the network elements to implement the selected protection schemes on the selected communication trunks.

A system and method for mounting a plurality of antenna elements onto a cell tower is disclosed. The plurality of antennas are mounted into a radome enclosure. The radome enclosure has an outer size and shape that matches the outer size and shape of a cellular antenna element. The radome enclosure is configured to attach to a cellular tower using the same physical mounting system as the cellular antenna elements. The plurality of antennas provide multiple point-to-point links that may be used for wireless backhaul links or other applications.

In accordance with the present invention, at least one portion of layer one resources of at least one telecommunication network is dedicated to at least one carrier virtual network.
