A cane or similar walking aid incorporates a concealed electrical self-defense device having electrodes located at the tip region of the cane, and may also incorporate an annular light source to aid the user. A grip is attached to a support shaft which terminates in a tip that is fabricated of an elastomer and incorporates electrodes for the electrical deterrent. The tip electrodes can be fabricated from a conductive elastomer to avoid scratching or marring floor surfaces as well as to provide resistance to slipping. When the shaft has both tip electrodes and side electrodes positioned along the exterior surface of the support shaft, the separation of the side electrodes can be adjusted to provide preferential arcing between the side electrodes to provide a visual and audible deterrent and to avoid premature deterioration of the conductive elastomer tip electrodes.

Self-defense walking aid

A personal protection system has a shaft that can be secured into a pair of end bases that mount to a surface of the surroundings of the user. The shaft and bases are configured to appear as a natural part of the surroundings, such as a support bar or rail, when the shaft is stored. The shaft can be removed, and has an end portion adapted to provide a weapon for self defense. For example, the end portion can employ a piercing point, a syringe and needle for injecting a bio-toxin, a canister for spraying a chemical irritant, an appliance for generating an electrical shock, or combinations of these elements. Preferably, the shaft is secured into the bases so as to be usable for support. It is further preferred for the bases to be configured to disguise the fact that the shaft can be removed.

Personal protection system

A cordless communications system wherein transmission is made and received via magnetic lines of induction comprises a base station and at least one mobile station wherein the base station receives and transmits voice or data signals at different frequencies. A PIGLER unit is selectively disposed between the base station and mobile station so as to extend the range of the communications system.

A cordless communications system wherein transmission is made and received via magnetic lines of induction comprises a base station and at least one mobile station wherein the base station receives and transmits voice or data signals at different frequencies. The base station employs at least two magnetic loop antennas for transmission and reception, respectively, oriented so as to provide a toroidal magnetic field which allows 360 degree transmission and reception in the planes of the antennas. The components of the at least one mobile station are mounted in an article of clothing. The mobile station is arranged in the article of clothing in such a manner as to insure a substantially constant effective coupling area with the base station antenna.
