A removable hard drive magazine for a computer with improved thermal performance has been developed. The invention includes a hot pluggable magazine module for organizing multiple hard drives in a computer that includes multiple of hard drives and a sleeve with a plurality of rail slots in the side of the sleeve. A slide rail is attached to the side of each hard drive, where the slide rail is inserted into a rail slot of the sleeve so that the slide rail is exposed externally to the sleeve and is in contact with a thermally conductive elastomeric coupler. A hard drive receptacle that is mounted in the computer is included. The receptacle includes guide slots that mate with the exposed slide rails of the hard drives. A heat sink is mounted on the receptacle that receives heat transferred from the plurality of hard drives through the thermally conductive elastomeric coupler. Finally, a backplane located in rear of the hard drive receptacle, where the backplane attaches the module to the computer.

The present invention is an apparatus for providing an uninterruptible power supply for an electronic device. The apparatus includes an AC-to-DC power supply that receives an external AC voltage supply and outputs a DC voltage to the electronic device. The power supply includes a bridge rectifier that rectifies the AC voltage from the external AC voltage supply, a boost power factor correction (PFC) converter that boosts the rectified voltage, and a line isolated DC-to-DC converter that changes the boosted voltage to the operating voltage range of the electronic device. The apparatus also includes an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) subsystem that contains, a controller that monitors the external AC voltage supply for interruptions, and a high voltage isolated DC-to-DC (HVDC) converter that supplies high voltage DC power directly to the PFC converter if the controller detects an interruption in the external AC voltage supply.

A removable module for grouping hard drives for a computer has been developed. The module includes multiple hard drives that have a slide rail attached on the side of each drive. The drive are inserted into a sleeve that has rail slots in its side which receive the slide rails of each drive so that the slide rails extend to the exterior of the sleeve.

Removable hard drive module for a computer

A high performance workstation computer to be portable without any performance limitations has been developed. The portable computer includes a computer unit, a protective case, and a protective cover. The computer unit is mounted in the protective case and may be removed if the user desires. The protective cover attaches to the protective case and it contains the accessories for the computer unit. A footing mechanism is also attached to the bottom of the protective case. It may be adjusted to properly orient the screen of the computer unit when it is operated from the protective case.

Packaging mechanism for a portable computer

A portable workstation computer is disclosed. The computer includes a display assembly adapted to be mounted between a frontal concave member and a rearward concave member. A keyboard, mouse, and accessories may be stored in the frontal concave member. Processing, memory, and storage components are housed in the rearward concave member. The display assembly may be interposed between the frontal concave member and the rearward concave member in a briefcase configuration, forming a casing for the computer. A dual display embodiment is also disclosed.

A portable workstation computer is disclosed. The computer includes a display assembly adapted to be mounted between a frontal concave member and a rearward concave member. A keyboard, mouse, and accessories may be stored in the frontal concave member. Processing, memory, and storage components are housed in the rearward concave member. The display assembly may be interposed between the frontal concave member and the rearward concave member in a briefcase configuration, forming a casing for the computer.

Systems and methods for transforming low resolution data into higher resolution video signals are disclosed. Exemplary embodiments of the present invention allow fixed frequency monitors to be integrated with personal computers without sacrificing backward compatibility of software which requires many different video display modes.

System and method for synthesizing high resolution video

A system for processing video data to be displayed comprises a controller and a monitor. The controller includes a memory for storing the digital data to be displayed and apparatus for sequentially reading data from the memory. The data from the controller is conducted in digital form to the separately housed monitor separated from the controller. In the monitor, the digital data is converted into analog form and displayed. In the converting process, the digital data is first converted to an analog current and then the analog current is converted to a voltage. An additional voltage-to-voltage conversion may occur to isolate the capacitance of the display device. This system is particularly suited for high resolution systems (greater than 1000.times.1000 pixels) in which a new pixel is refreshed at least every 10 nanoseconds.

A vector to raster converter system in which vectors are delivered to the system and stored in a vector memory in groups. Each group includes all vectors which have at least a portion in a particular area of the output plot called a vector band. Vectors are serially read out of the vector memory and converted into a series of coordinates of points along the vector. The coordinates of each point are analyzed to determine if the point lies in a second particular area within the vector band called a raster band. The coordinates in the raster band are stored in a raster memory. After the entire vector band has been rasterized the contents of the raster memory are output to a plotter. The contents of the vector memory is then rasterized again and a determination is made as to whether each pair of coordinates is in the next raster band. This process continues until all of the raster bands in the vector band have been processed. All of the vectors in the next vector band are then loaded into the vector memory and the process continues.

Banded vector to raster converter

Apparatus for determining the position of a cursor with respect to a floating coordinate system, such as a menu. The floating menu incorporates two sensing devices similar to that in the cursor. A processing unit determines the position of the two sensing devices and the position of the cursor with respect to a fixed coordinate system. From this data the position of the cursor with respect to the floating menu is determined.
